My 72 heads looks like that .

The head I have, the bolt head actually sits were the yellow line above boss ends, right down where the top fin is.. not up on top of the rib..the rib is split in to rwo parts, the bolt head is  DOWN in between them and flush to the fin.

Mine looks similar to the pic inHEAD MARKING thread. on my 72's the bolt head is higher, the height if the rib with a boss in the area to support the bolt, ie bolt sits about 8 or 10 mm higher up.

So what you are saying is that the K0 had at least 3 different styles of heads.

No bolt - Flush bolt - Top Bolt.........

Heads do get changed around on bikes. If there was a second head for KO (with front bolt) then the partsbook should show two lengths of bolts.

My book goes to June 71, and shows two bolts, but one is flanged head and the other not.. will check if length is mentioned. ( I think not).

What I am getting at is being able to id the year of heads by the castings and marks, like is done with carheads/blocks
