So where did the 200 plus engines end up??

 Even by the 600 serial # they were out of sequence by at least 225 engine numbers.

 Any theories where they ended up??

 Similar thing happened to another very sought after bike anout 30 years prior..

I don't have any information on this but....wasn't world motorcycle building NOS sandcasts for a while a couple of years ago. I know they have a large store of NOS parts and do restorations, but IIRC they were also building "new" sandcasts in limited numbers out of the NOS parts.

or are you talking about something that happened during production back in 1968/69?

Maybe some of the production line workers spirited them out in their lunch pails.

Could they have been destroyed if they didn't pass quality inspections at the factory?

That is possible, I dont think they get nunbered till assembled. they could have discovered a flaw on a test bike that made them  pull these cases off the line..

Mine is in the 700 series and only out by 5 numbers.

I thought World refurbished low-number sandcast engines... from the way the articles are written about it him, it doesn't sound like he builds them from scratch.

  The frames and motors were built at same time; on a completed bike, the motor was tested at the factory and if had any mechanical issues, they pulled it for repair and immediately installed the next available motor off the line. They did not want delays in shipping out finished motorcycles.
  Vic World starts w/ buying a used sandcast like anybody else but finishes it w/ a mind-boggling cache' of nos parts. He started buying entire inventories of select 300 code parts and hoarding them from EVERY Honda dealer in the country 25 years ago, and bought every sandcast and K0 he could find before they became collectable. He's a shrewd speculator and waaaaay ahead of the sandcast game. It must be nice to have a couple dozen nos speedos and tachs plus a herd of parts bikes. Sandcast bikes and certain rare parts he hunts down just like anybody else. He also restores and races CR750's; one of his CR's won the big vintage race at Daytona 2 or 3 years ago.
   I know somebody that visited Vic's shop; he said he stopped counting at 100 the pipes hanging from the ceiling.

I know someone local who has one, still crated! And he will never part with it (his words, not mine) or even use it.

The engine and frame #'s on the protype match...2113

  I've been involved w/ the prototype from day 1; its owner didn't have a clue as to what he stepped in, and I verified it before anyone else heard about it. I actually SLEPT next to it when I stayed overnight at its owner place last year when it was found (yes, I still respected it in the morning). 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, the prototype was available for sale!! Its owner called me up several times, we talked at length, price was set, he said it was a done deal, come and get it. I REALLY scrambled- begged and borrowed from relatives, and SOLD my LAST sandcast (the pipe dream) to get the funds together.
   Guess what? You guessed it. My worst fears; the day I come for it, he changed his mind.  I knew it was too good to be true.
   To say I'm in currently a bit of a funk is an understatement....it was the ultimate jilt. I went on the biggest up-and-down roller coaser ride the CB750 world could ever imagine. The plans I had for it were the all-time documented and celebrated restoration, taken to all the shows in the world, magazine articles, maybe a book. I'll get over it, but at least I had a taste of it.
    Its still in his damp, dark basement in pieces, he hasn't done anything to it since he found it 18 months ago. Thats like living w/ the sexiest babe around and treating her like shlt and not indulging. What a waste of a machine.
    Maybe I should practice CB750 abstinance after all this?

736cc, what a mindf*ck...I have been dealing and wheeling for 35 years.

Some advice...

Keep going back! Again and again at about 2 monthly intervals.

Have the cash in your back pocket.

Show him the cash just once. Only once, to let him know you have it
and to let him know what it looks like. Pick your time because he could
become indignant at that stage and start going on about "You think
you can buy me with your money"...blah blah blah, but he wants it, but
doesn't want to appear "money hungry". Just bide your time and be very
careful and patient.

He will grow sick of having it sit down in his basement in bits, taking
up room, smelling like a pre-production CB Sandcast....He's grown bored
with it by now and is sick of walking around
the boxes and he wants a 2008 H.D. Sporty.

Don't overdo it but just keep youself in his mind and that you have
the cash and when he wants to part with it it's a done deal.

I know it all sounds simple but if you treat him with respect and aren't
too pushy it will come together for you.

He may be reading this post as your are reading it right now, but if
you are respectful of him he will respect your wish to own the bike.

Nice...not too many 700 series around that I've seen. I have motor #750...there's only one of those.

and on the topic of the pre production.....not having seen it...but I would think it would be up closer to $50,000.....if Vic's are going for $30,000.
