Aftermarket Starter Button Long Post
« on: December 18, 2007, 02:06:57 PM »
Hey Guys,
I did do a search..and found tons of info. But I'd like to confirm what I found.

I'm looking to get rid of the Right hand controls on my bars..to clean up things further.

Bike 75 CB750F

Just need a starter Button to be placed in a hidden spot. Not to concerned about Kill switch functions.

I'm I to look for a 3 terminal, open circuit push button? (should it list Common, NC, NO) on package?

Is this correct as far as wiring?
Black wire from switch should go to COMMON on NEW switch
BLK/RED wire runs to N/C of NEW switch
Yellow/RED runs to N/O of new switch

What do I do with the other wires that goto the old switch...wired for kill switch. tape them off?

I hope this makes sense..

Please contribute if you have a easier way to do this.

Thanks so much..MIke

Not entirely to the question...but, on the K bikes..at least the early ones.. .voltage goes from the ignition switch through the kill switch to the ignition coils. If you eliminate the kill switch, you will need to short the two wires that went to it to maintain the connection.

RE: the starter switch. NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) refer to the "un-pressed" state. As such, the NO would make the starter connection and the NC would go to the headlight (to turn it off during starter engagement).

Is it really a good idea to do away with the kill switch? Although I've never had to use it in an emergency, they are there for a reason... on every bike I've seen.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but you might kill two birds with one of these automotive type ignition switches:

I paid about $6 at NAPA if I remember.  Never bothered to interrupt the headlight when I use the starter and have gone over a year with no problems.

on my bikes i use two on/off toggles, and mount them under the tank on the frame rails.  first one is power for whole bike.  second is power for starter. only trick is you have to remember to turn off the starter switch after the bikes starts.  I had a customer blow a starter this way.

Fit a seperate on/off for the lights and then a straight button for the starter

...and if you use toggles, get one that is spring return so it will kill the starter connection when you release it.

....a momentary switch, a push button is the way I would go.

What will you use for high/low beam. just asking cuz you do need it.. I considered a toggle in the end of the left handlebar. What are you using for throttle housing?

I alway ran a 72 and down switch housing, holds the throttle, kill and high/low.

Great Replys thanks..
Is it possible to turn my HORN button into Start Button.. or is that not the right setup. I'd like to at least remove The Right Side Handlebar switch..and keep all function to the leftside. What about the High/Low switch any creative Ideas with that...I never use that for anything.

Keep the ideas coming!

if you are willing to run a left side housing. and a throttle, why not just run a rt side 72 and down, takes care of Throttle, Horn/starter & Hi/Lo all in one package.. leaves the left side clean just a nice lever..
