Hey all, I'm running my 77, 750F, it has a 74 engine according to the manual, and the serial number, I dissasembled the engine, because the headgasket went, and I noticed a few very shallow semi circles that looked like valve impressions on the tops of the pistons, my fellow shade tree mechanics, and opinion of the mechanic I told about it, was that they were likely the cause of overrev, since all the valves looked fine and ran smooth through the guides. So I buttoned the engine back up, with new cam chain, and torqued it all down, checked timing, cam tension and valve adjustment twice. and man this is a noisy girl.... So I'm about to take the girl apart again,
First dissassemble I noticed some wire brush marks, but the head looks machined, so my new theory, is that some former owner, took a wire brush to the head, went ooh crap, and had it machined out, but if I can still see the wire brush marks in places chances are, the machinist didn't want to take anymore material off the head, and perhaps has already taken too much off for it to run properly in stock form...
Can I double up on the head or base gaskets to give the head the needed clearance? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
