Suzuki Savage ?
« on: December 23, 2007, 09:16:56 PM »
Anybody here know anything about them?
Got to thinking maybe one of them would make the new thumper I need.  Could I put normal pegs, or rear-sets on one? Lower bars?  What kind of ground clearance does it have?  Red-line?  Stuff like that.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Yeah... can't do much with that frame.
I wonder if that engine would fit a CCM frame?!

They can have main bearing problems.
I'll find out more if you need it.

Don't know anything about the Savage myself, except what they look like. I DID have a DR500 a while back that I was going to go through and build up. Are the 2 motors similar, except for the cc's? ???
The DR seemed to be pretty decent but, I traded it off for a couple of "Parts" CB450 (& misc 450 parts).

Wellll... I was wonderng if it would make a decent standard, thumper-style.  Since the frame is too low and the foot controls are too forward, I lost interest.
Now I'm wonder ing about those CCM's with the Suzuki 400 engine.
I really want another thumper.  Sorry I had to sell the GB.  Very depressing.

I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat if I could find one in good shape.
After I finish my Z1 project and the CB550 project(s), my next venture will be a big-bore thumper. 8)

The cam chain problem is due to the main bearings wearing out on the flywheel side.
Lack of maintainance and excessive rpm.
Its got an extra bolt on flywheel.
Bearing wears and crank tilts using up all the cam chain tensioner movement and also running out of line.

Its nothing like the DR motor which was actually pretty good
