Can anyone identify this tank?
« on: December 24, 2007, 10:17:57 am »
I was thinking about bidding on it and trying to fit it on my 550.  My video card on this computer sucks and i cant really see what it is.  I can kinda see that it has the knee inserts and that it says honda on it.  But i have no idea what it might be off of and if it will fit my 550 easily. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=260195475474&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI

Agreed, CX500 tank.

I've got one of these that I'm fitting to my CB750 project. These were originally mounted at an angle on the CX500, so the petcock angles rearward when the tank is mounted flat. I'm cutting out the stock petcock bung and welding in a Pingel bung...not sure if you could use the stock CX500 petcock at that angle or not.

It clears the frame rails for the most part, but the tank is much wider at the front where the rubber mounts fit; modification there will be necessary too.

Also, the filler ends up on the front downward slope when the tank is mounted flat, I'm using a different filler with the hole moved rearward. It doesn't look as though you'd be able to get the tank more than 3/4 full with the stock filler location.

Here's a photo of how it looks just sitting there:

One obsession at a time please.  Love the VW's got a 73 beetle and a 67 deluxe bus out back.

Good eye! It's actually a loaner from a friend and has an 1835/dual 40 Weber setup. I've owned many VW's over the years; big motors, fiberglass flip-up front ends, a lowered '64 panel van, etc, and none of them get as many comments as that poptop junker. Go figure.  ???
