Ya after getting my seat in and the rear springs mounted I dont see how you could ride a bike without the front of the seat actually being attached.  I sat on mine with just the springs attached and thought I was going to fall off just sitting there.

Ya I am using some curved 1/2" alum.  No Shocks at all.  And I just called the shop that is making them for me and they said they are done so I am picking them up when I get off work and will post some pics once I get them on.  I am freaking excited!!!! Woohoo.
