KO OEM Chain guard question
« on: December 16, 2007, 06:45:31 AM »
My CB750KO has a build date on the stem of 1/70.  It came with a 2 piece chain guard (top and bottom).  The guard covers the chain entirely.  I had read HONDA had a chain guard they put on some of the KO's do to the automatic chain oiler throwing oil all over.  It appears the previous owner stopped the oiler, so my question is would it be more of a collector bike with this 2 piece guard or should I put a OEM 1 piece on the bike?  Your opinions are welcome.

Too bad they cut a hole in the middle of the chainguard, did they bugger up the tip too??

Does anyone weld these up nicely, I have a cracked one?? I mean good enough you cant tell??

My money says Hooker 4-2 headers..
Can you tell us you serial #. dont need the last 3 digits, just 2 or 3 before that.wondering where production numbers were at Jan of 70

I agree DG...sort of a unique look.  Plus, it sure will keep the chain cleaner.  As per 754 request, the frame number is 1020463 and the engine number is 1020821.  I have already replaced that exhaust with HM300's.  Another interesting thing is this bike came with red rear blinker lenses as the blinkers are actually tailights.  There is a circuit board under the seat that I have included a picture of below.  I never saw one of these before either.

I figured production for 69 was somewhere in that neighborhood.

I have seen on here some saying 69 go to 28K or higher and someone saying a 34K might be a 69 and I am thinking not!!

According to my parts list and the associated ser. numbers, the original CB750 (aka K0) ran to 44,649. At 44,650 it became the K1... in the U.S. anyway.

Bob that may be but K0 is a model designation.. not alway year of manufacter.

Also when I had my sandcast I quite often seen them referred to as CB750..and KO came after that. Which may or may not be true.
I will try to look at my partsbook, see if they have cb750 and K0 seperate.

By what Johnie has posted there should be less than 20,463 1969 models in existence..keep in mind that models now made in Nov, I think would be 2008 models.. correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for posting the number Johnie, do you think your bike was always in the US??

I would not remove it either. It seems to me like an aftermarket accesory, not a homemade gadget. Furthermore, it probably run only in the very early models as it would not fit a long chainguard. I guess the fitting instructions directed to make a hole in the plastic chainguard and plug it with a rubber plug, to use it as inspection hole -that's the way it normally goes with full-enclosed chainguards. Even if you remove it, don't trash it.

Thanks for posting, this seems like some cool CB750 trivia.

Some states required red rear signal lenses back in 1969 before national standards, ie: Pa.

Well, this KO was bought new from a Milwaukee, WI dealer in 1970.  It was then bought by the original owners cousin in 1983 or so.  He rode it until 1990 and said he just lost interest.  It then sat in his garage covered for 17 years before I found it.  I got a heck of a deal on it as long as I would bring it back to show him my progress as I restored it.  To answer your questions, it was never a police bike and it was always in WI.

The white sidecover also adds to the police bike theory, I didn't think about that before. I have the parts manual for the CB350P (police) but not for the CB750P, maybe somebody with the manual can shed some light.

If it was a P it would only have one instrument.

Sounds like he somewhat has the history of it.

The previous owner painted the side covers silver for some reason.  I can see the original candy ruby red under the covers.  The tins are all off the KO and it will be repainted in January with dondirtbikers paint.  Below is the bike in my patio (understanding wife) where I putz all winter.
