Okay movie.
But Will Smith is no Charleton Heston.

"Take your hands off me you damn dirty light-shunning, cannibalisitic, super-strong zombie freaks"

I saw legend yesterday and wasn't to impressed. Personally I'm sick of flesh eating zombie like creatures (especially those with super strength etc) like in Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days etc, etc. Omega Man....which I saw when it came out....at least has some dialogue, the effected peolple still maintain human qualities and there is a struggle between good and evil. All you do with Legend is wait for a creature to pop out of somewhere.

How about this one (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058700/)  with Vincent Price?  Seems like these are 3 of a kind, with one of the premier actors of each era as the star.  Haven't seen Legend yet, but am looking forward to it.  Liked "The Last Man on Earth" and "The Omega Man."

I like Will Smith's acting. I even enjoyed Hitch. He is really quite good in this film, but IMHO can't carry it through it's inconsistent writing and fake-looking CGI.  A couple of glaring inconsistencies jarred me out of my movie immersion, e.g.  the Will Smith character states that the zombies have sunk below even the animal level. And next thing you know, he's encountering a clever purported zombie leader who sets a very effective trap.

Anyway, I prefer older movies in general. The run-of-the-mill Hollywood stuff is predictable and formulaic. However, I will go with my wife to see the new National Treasure installment, because she really enjoyed the first one and I can always use the brownie points.  ;)

I haven't seen Legend, don't know that I will.  all 3 movies are based upon the book, I am Legend.  I grew up on Omega Man, so not too interested in Legend, though the FX look cool in the trailer.  Vincent Price's film was entitled Last Man on Earth.  And until i read the review on Legend, didn't know that the Omega Man was a rehash.

So it goes.  I can wait for cable or DVD.

I think the thread should be renames to "I Am Legend (movie) vs I Am Legend (book) vs Omega Man.  ;D

I read the original book quite a long time ago and recently listened to the audiobook on a long road trip. There are few similarities between the book and movie. Both were interesting but I liked the book much better.

I see it the same as Mriek.  Omega Man had more ideas, and a more interesting conflict.  Heston's character had more of a dark side, which made it interesting.  Will Smith did a good job (the scene with the dog was tough to watch if you are a dog lover), but the script didn't give him much to work with.  My main problem with Omega Man was that the religious symbolism got a little heavy-handed.
