          Yeah Bryan, Feb. is when the cutoff is for the "Old Design" motors will be no longer available. Their roots go back for 70yrs. Kinda sad to see the change, but progress has a way of bringing change,huh?

Guys, on a serious note - I've thought about buying a new Enfield Bullet 350. These are made from the 1953 engine design given to India under license. They are cheap and I hope a blast to ride around. Give me the scoop and good/bad things I should know.

           Gordon, While I don't have any info about the Pros & Cons of the bike in question, I CAN tell you that the current engine will not be built for export after Feb, 2008 and the roots of that engine design actually goes back 70 yrs. I DO have a link that will take you to folks with PLENTY of experience with them though, although they might be somewhat biased with their responses.

         Here are some other models. The 1st one is actually a conversion that can be applied and the 2nd one is a NEW Woodsman model (a name revived from back in the 50's)

So you are saying the red and the silver bike are the same but the silver bike has an offroad conversion added to it?

       Chris (and anyone else I might have confused), the 1st one (silver) is a standard R.E. Bullet that has had a conversion kit installed and the 2nd one (Red) is an actual model built by Royal Enfield. Note the high exhaust system on the left side of the red bike. I'll see if I can find a better left side view of the red bike. I've seen one, just can't remember exactly where.

i'm out here in the boonies of missouri. there's a guzzi /hyosung dealer up the road from me in the next "larger town". i stopped in one day to ask if i could go through his bike junk yard he had in the back but noticed he also carried enfields. there in the back corner of the dealership i noticed a bike that looked just like this one . the only difference is he had a straight through exhaust pipe.

it was an earlier 2000 model made to look like a cafe. it was also bored out to 500cc. he said he's close to breaking the ton.

it's good to bump into people like this in the middle of nowhere.

Hey Bill..

Did you ever ride a Matchless or AJS 600 cc "Thumper"?  I've ridden the Enfields too.  They don't compare in sheer vibrational power to the Matchless or AJS (both of latter were essentially the same bike..but with different marques..as you probably know).

It was amazing the torque and power they had (even compared to the 2-strokes today)..but you felt like you had been beaten with a hose after riding one all day.

Well..we then transitioned to the higher RPM Japanese and especially Hondas from there..right?  A whole different way of looking @ power and ride.

        Sorry it took me so long to respond to this Ichiban. While I've never ridden the AJS or Matchless 600cc singles, I HAVE seen a Matchless 600cc Typhoon in action on an asphalt Scrambles Track and it was a pure sight to see that sucker come around a banked curve "Sideways" in a Controlled Power Slide! Pure Thumper Power!
Yeah, there are some who don't know that AJS and Matchless were basically the same. Never really knew what that was all about. Yeah, the Japanese bikes brought about a change in several ways.
