"N" Gage
« on: December 30, 2007, 05:15:47 AM »
Went to a bike show outside D.C. and also ended up at a model
railroad show that was going on next door.
N gage is very small--seemed to be the demo size of choice--interesting.

The bike show was mostly choppers and leather and that interesting
phenomenon--The mid 30's hardcore biker accompanied by his extremely
nice looking wife and two very normal looking 10 or 12 year old kids !
What's going on here?
Is there a parallel universe where wives don't get pissed off at husbands who spend all
day in the garage working on bikes and drinking beer ?

Bike show had one very interesting old school/new school skinny tired machine that was so nice it had me thinking about "crop circles" !

Rides: 75 CB750F, 48 Indian Chief, 67 Triumph TR6, 63Honda CA95
          83 XL600R in CB360 Frame
          3-wheel electric tilting cycle

Garage?  Oh, you mean that place where you park the brand new Harley (under the $400 Harley Davidson cover, over course)?  Working on bikes?  What's that?

I guarantee if you walk up to one of those guys and ask where the pushrod seal is, he'd point at the front forks.  ;D

Fuzz,

I was thinking about an "N" scale setup in the garage that after a couple spins around would trip
my full sized crossing bell and lights. Please advise.!--Any pics of your setup?

I'm more of a UK outline OO gauge guy myself ;D

That way my 1:76 scale USMC have somewhere to occasionally park their Hueys, Cobras and Jolly Greens without looking too out of place ;D

Gerhed, www.trains.com has a wealth of info and N Scale Magazine is pretty good too.

Fuzzybutt, I'd like to see some pics of your layout too.

I had an N setup at my last house because of the space available. I have a full basement now so I'm getting ready to start a HO project. Nothing fancy just yet, probably just a 4' X 8' layout. I might end up setting up both scales. ;)

When I was a kid, I had an N-scale layout; well, I still have it stored away since it was something me and my late father put together, its hard to part with.  My N-scale engines were ruined when a leaky roof soaked them.  Fortunately, N-scale trains aren't expensive.  These days, my 2-year old daughter (who loves trains, BTW) has given me an excuse to get into G-scale - something I could never afford to do when I was younger.  Right now, we just have the typical loop under the Christmas tree, but we're busy figuring out where our garden railroad will run and I'm busy saving up for all the expensive stuff we're going to need to make this happen.

we're in the process of building our new layout now, going to be spread over 2 4x8 sheets of plywood with blue foam insulation board as a trackbed. we use the 1/2" sheets for trackbed and i get the 4" to carve scenery out of.

when you first posted this i thought you were talking about the now defunct nokia handheld gaming system....but i have a neighbor that had an n scale setup across his whole basement as well as a small  (H?) scale race car setup on the same cityscape.  it was a blast growing up, going over there and racing the cars trying to beat the train across the tracks....
