Ah, now the fun begins. Some guys just leave them off because of the hassle to install them. I replaced mine when I deracked the carbs. They have to slide onto the arms and to do that you have to separate the arms from the slide shaft which requires removal of each carb. If someone knows an easier way I would like to know it too.

I found that removal was the only way i could do it, remove each carb and dont slacken the forks or the carb piston height adjuster or you will be into a major synchro like i was  :(

Correct, don't mess with the nut on top of the carb slides unless you want to sync those carbs. The sad part is that you have to remove the carb rack from the bike in order to get at the 2 screws that hold each carb to the rack.

Ugh.  I need to replace three of these on my carbs.
Thanks for confirming what I already concluded - that it's as big a PITA as it appears.

Maybe I'll save it for later....

You don't need to remove each carb from the rack to install those.  You do need to remove the carb bank from the bike though.  Once removed, unscrew the top of one of the outer carbs.  Remove the carb return spring.  Lift the carbs open all the way and hold them open.  Lift the carb topper up so you can move the slide shaft around.  At this point you should be able to wiggle the slide shaft off the arm that holds it.  You will have to really move that slide shaft but it will come off the arm.  Slide your carb rubber over the arm and wiggle the shaft back into place.  Button everything up and move to the next carb.  One at a time and you can do it without having to de-rack the carbs and mess with your synch.

loosen all the lock bolts and one screw on the pivot shaft.  Tap the shaft left and then back right to remove the chrome lift arms for replacement of the boots.  Do not unscrew the carb bodies from the main rack or anything silly like that.  The woodruff keys may have to be pryed out and then reinserted.  This same process is used to adjust the needle clip height with minimun adjustmants afterward.  I have done many.
