Is Big Jay on vacation?  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Yup.  You're trying to optimize the flow of the gas/air mixture and exhaust through the combustion chamber.  You do it by altering the intake and exhaust ports in the head.

Ya so I knew that! ;)  Just wanted to keep you guys on your toes and make sure you actually knew what you were talking about.  ::)

So what is it called when you put bigger pistons in the block?

And paul do you still need this block?

i was wanting to give porting a shot as well. i have 2 spare junk 77/78 heads to practice on. what tools would you use? i have black&decker variable speed dremel and i stumbled across a port/polish kit on jegs for $30. the kit is just different size and grit sanding drums made for dremels.

i guess i assumed you knew which was the head, and was actually gonna send that to me.  ;D it's on the left in the picture, with the exhaust studs hanging out. i don't need the cylinders. bigger pistons in block is called overboring.

Ya sorry about that.  I am still a little ignorant when it comes to engines.  But that is why I bought this bike, so I can learn.  Man I feel like an idiot.   ;)

And to mgmuellner.....A boob job is when you put bigger blocks in the pistons.   :P

What's a vacation??? ;D

If you really want to learn to port heads, forget the Dremel. Get an air grinder with 1/4" chuck. They are now pretty cheap thanks to our friends in China.

Youwill need sone long shank carbide cutters. For the abrasives to finish up, http://www.sa-motorsports.com/

If You are going to use the head after porting, please save the trouble and liver and have a pro port Your head!!!!! You will most likely loose HP! This IS brain surgery and rocket science put together!!
The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.
