I was first introduced to Marmite and the like when I dated a nice British schoolteacher who was on the same kibbutz as me. I liked her, but not some of her tastes in foods.
When I lived in Canada, I was reintroduced to some of this stuff. There has to be a better excuse to spread things on bread.
In Israel, nearly every kid grows up with memrah shokolad - chocolate spread! Now, that's the way to go. It even comes in two versions, sweet and not sweet. Don't mistake this for dessert. This is the stuff that goes on toast in the morning.
So, here we are in Santa Fe USA, and my wife brings home Nutella. Hazelnut spread with skim milk and cocoa, the label says. Made in Canada? How come I never ate this when I lived there?
