XS 650 and CB 450 Twin
« on: January 04, 2008, 07:00:02 AM »
So I've got a guy that I've met before when he stopped to talk about the 550 out in front of the old townhouse we used to live in.  Good guy that had a motorcycle shop in his garage and needs to clear out some stuff.  He's got tons of parts (said almost complete 450 twin) and a project that he says "just needs to be finished and get on the road".  It's an Yammy XS 650 resleeved to 750, ported, polished, wiseco HC pistons, coated valves, balanced, high performance ignition, tons of plastics, etc.  I've never seen one of these up close but they look pretty nice in the pics I've seen.

Oh, he said if we can make a deal on the Yammy, he'll throw in the 450 stuff.

I know it'll be a hard sell for the wife but damn it sounds like a great deal...

Any thoughts?  Ideas on what it'll cost me?  I don't know how much those 650s go for but I figure there's at least $500 worth of parts and performance work done on it already.

Had to share

Any idea what work still needs to be done?  I bought an XS650 for $450 from a friend.  Didn't need anything to run but I put in new plugs, filters, and a chain.  Rode it around a while and then sold it to another friend for $500.  Should've kept it though.  But the new owner is turning it into a bobber so I'm excited to see how it's going to turn out.

He said it's in pieces (not sure if that means head here, tranny there or what) but that it is complete.  It's a cafe street fighter project with performance parts (I forgot to mention the cam and springs were not stock) and he said the original idea was to make it as fast as possible without sacraficing streetability.  I asked about the cam and he said it "isn't too agressive", etc.  I'd pretty much be building someone else project with my own touches here and there, plus paint.

Also, he mentioned having a front end for a KZ650 that has been completely rebuilt and has polished trees

So I went to take a look at this guys stuff today and There's no way I can make him an offer for what it's worth.  My wife and I set a limit (read my wife set a limit) and just the parts for the engine are worth more than that.  The ignition system is still in the box, Pistons are high compression with cam cuts and coated sleeves that were balanced by a machine shop for exact weight.  The head is beautiful.  The cylinders were something like carbide bored and look very nice.

The frame is just a basic frame.  He's including a tank from an old triumph that looks great with the frame lines and has a hole through the middle for some kind of camber lock.  Both side panels are solid but have bad paint.  Parts are all over the place so I don't know how complete the bike is.

I made a deal with him.  I'm listing stuff on e-bay for him (he doesn't have an account) and he's putting half of the proceeds toward the cost of the XS 650 project.

Here's the list of stuff he's selling if anyone is interested:

'77 CB 750 carbs - good shape from what I could tell
KZ650 seat - very good shape
KX650 tank and rear cowl - very solid but 70s style paint needs some work.
Sportster tank with neck moved 2 inches forward - looks solid and paint is decent.
KZ650 front end - polished trees, rebuilt forks.

Just wanted to put it out there before I start posting to e-bay.  I should have some idea of what he's looking to get for them tomorrow.

Well, it looks like I won't be able to take advantage of this after all.  We've had some stuff come up that not only puts my projects on hold, but requires me to try and sell the 550 and all the parts I already have lying around.

If anyone is interested I think you could get all the xs 650 stuff plus the cb450 twin for around $800.

For the other stuff, he's asking:

$100 '79 kz650B gas tank
$75  '79 kz650B seat
$50  '79 kz650B tail piece
$75 Suzuki tank
$150 Sportster tank with fresco mount and gloss paint
$150 rebuilt and polished kz650 front end
$200 Ducati 900SS fairing

None of this is mine but I feel bad that I can't help him out like we had discussed so wanted to see if anyone is interested.  There's tons more in his shop that he's looking to part with but we ran out of day light when I was there.

That's the link to my photobucket account I loaded his pics to when I was going to e-bay everything for him.  If it doesn't work I can post links to individual pics.  Someone let me know if you don't mind.
Thanks
James

???  If you're not going to get this stuff.
Well, I am interested in either or both.  All or part, got a XS 650 or two, was looking to build a street tracker, or a cooler one than the one I have.  I also have a 450 twin that is a retired flat tracker...always looking for spares or a stable mate for it.

Where is this gold mine located?  Please say within 300 miles of Tulsa, OK.....no really....
Thanks
PS. I couldn't look at the pics and I got a photobucket account!

Not quite as close as you'd like.  He's in Charlottesville, VA.  The link was busted when I changed the name of the folder (I'm kinda slow some times) so here's the one that should work.
