Although additives will not clear a total obstruction they can clear partial obstructions providing there is some flow through the jet.
I have never had a real problem with replacement jets and find them a requirement for modified engines. Even exhaust changes can require re-jetting. Variations from the stock air box, exhaust, cam, bore, pistons, etc. will change the way the motor breathes and require re-tuning/re-jetting of the carbs.
If it doesn't run right with those new after market jets, it isn't always the jets fault.
Sometimes it's the jetter's fault.
