Is gas tank additive to fine tune carbs OK?

Just wondering if it is OK to use something like Chevron Techron or Berrymans in a tank of gas to fine tune the carbs and fuel system on my 1970 CB750. I use it on some 1980's Honda's but want to be sure I am not going to vaporize some gaskets.  Thanks again for your expertise.

We all use that stuff. One of the favorites is Seafoam. No one reports problems.

Most auto parts stores sell it. Advanced, Auto Zone, NAPA, etc.

Only thing that fixes carbs is removing the jets and making sure the orifices are clear. Stuttering from idle is usually a clogged slow jet which works with the air screws. A good running engine should idle without a lift from the throttle. Buying new after market jets are a waste of time and usually work worse than original. Best use crysilic acid or other to eat the old gas from the jet.

I find gas additives incapable of fixing clooged jets, if that has happened.

Although additives will not clear a total obstruction they can clear partial obstructions providing there is some flow through the jet.

I have never had a real problem with replacement jets and find them a requirement for modified engines. Even exhaust changes can require re-jetting. Variations from the stock air box, exhaust, cam, bore, pistons, etc. will change the way the motor breathes and require re-tuning/re-jetting of the carbs.

If it doesn't run right with those new after market jets, it isn't always the jets fault.
Sometimes it's the jetter's fault.  ::)
