Need some brake caliper-cb400f-help
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:34:23 PM »
Hello I have been in the slow process of bringing back to life my cb400f. I have never worked on the brakes. I cleaned up all the parts and installed new stainless steel lines. I tried to bleed the system to get new fluid in. I noticed when I was sucking fluid through he brake bleeder that fluid was dripping from the underside of my brake caliper. So I disassembled the brake caliper, removed the pad and then the piston dropped out with lots of fluid. I noticed there was a small groove on the inside of the caliper body. Am I missing an o-ring that would seal my unit? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I hope this is the culprit.

any help is appreciated

thanks!

You're kidding, right?

Of course, there's supposed to be a seal ring in the groove.  Item 8 in the pic, part number 45108-300-003

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The first time i tore into my brake caliper, I didn't know what I was doing either. Hell, I still don't know what I'm doing when it comes to working on my bike! Live and learn.
