clutch issues
« on: January 05, 2008, 10:02:58 AM »
ok..not as smart as i thought i was....listened to another "super" mechanic.  i now have the k2 motor that fragged a clutch, wound up using the clutch basket and innerds from my original f1 motor..(the one that threw the primaries.  I already did a search and found a few things.  I have the 35.5 mm springs.  I also have the new style 76 basket..wider slot at outer most edge......and old style clutches...but they don't seem to ride at the outer edge of the basket.  Also am I missing a piece?  My clymer manual exploed view shows clutch outer ring, a clutch plate stopper ring, and a cluch plate A.  I have never had any of thse pieces.  the big question is (this is where i listened to the super mechanic..) isn't there supposed to be a splined washer between the basket and the clutch center?  could this be why I kep frying my clutches?  not to mention the grindage on the face of the clutch center?  the clutch has always grabbed well and never slipped, but they have never lasted. Now i have damage to the pressure plate towers and the backside of the center.  Do i need to say F--k it and just loate another K2 clutch assembly?   I will try and load the pictures i took with the camera.

almost forgot.....the origninal 76 F motor had a flat snap ring that held the clutch basket itself to the transmission shaft, the K2 motor dosn't.
