Motor Rebuilding - seperating values section from lower section (fin sections)

I've got the topend off the motor but the two sections are together. Well the entire motor is apart. Piston are ope and being polished. case has been split etc. the project is going great. However, I can't figure out how to split the two sections that reside on top.
do the cylinder liners need to come out first. how agressive can I be with this stuff. Little scared to do much.
thanks

Hmm, mine came apart rather easily. The two pieces came off together at first, but then I just gave a gentle nudge with a pry bar in between the fins and apart they came. Maybe try a little at a time at each corner a couple times around?

Mine was a #$%* to get apart too. I had to get a big flat head and pry mine apart.

Get a manual and read and reread the motor disassembly section about 3 times..
Get a basic understanding of how it is supposed to come apart. You have missed taking out 4 bolts and are taking it apart the wrong way. So it might pay to look into what you should be doing..BREFORE you break something.
What you took off is supposed to come of in two pieces.

The 4 bolts that 754 is talking about can be hard to see if you don't know where to look. Did you remove the rubber seals (flat discs) on the top side of the head yet?
