I don't think there is any difference $ wise. AAA just do the same thing as DMV.

AAA may not be able to handle complicated situation like this.
In my case, I went to AAA first and was told that the bike belong to the salvage company not the PO and they were not authorized to handle commercial to personal transfer. They handle personal to personal only.

However they did bin# inspection for me and gave me the paperwork which I gave to the DMV.
You should make an appointment for the DMV, that way you don't have to wait. (But usually the appointment date is like one week after you applied.)

Oh, and my bike wasn't roadworthy at all either. DMV gave me the registration (which I didn't want) but I was so releaved that they accepted my paperwork I didn't complain. I didn't insure the bike and three months later I got a notice from DMV and had to fill and mail affidavid of non-use or something like that. After I rebuilt the bike, I bought insurance and called DMV to get me off the list.

Yikes.
In MI, all I do is walk in with the VIN, say my neighbor gave it to me to get it out of his garage.
They run the number, $20 and I have a title.
I have done this a few times.
I think, at least in MI, if they have not been plated, they "fall off the record" after 7 years.

That sounds good Two Tired
If the bike is out of the system, then there shouldn't be back fees correct?  Any body have any numbers for how much this may cost to retitle and register?
Thanks again for the replies.
