I thought so but I wasn't sure that the F headers matched up to the K. Or was it an issue with the hangers? I can't remember but I thought there was a reason that I never got the F pipes.  ::)

Thank you.It has been sitting since 2003.I went to the dealer to buy a oil filter for the 550 and they had a new RC51 in the showroom. At that time Honda had a great deal on new bikes.I found out my credit was better than I thought.Left with a 03 RC51 and a oil filter. The bike has only been ridden a few times since. But it is time to bring it back to life. Its last ride was at the The Tail of the Dragon in 03 at the Honda Hoot in Tennessee.Did not have the RC51 long enough to be comfortable at the Dragon so I took the 550.What a great road to ride, the 550 was the perfect bike to take. I have a brand new Yoshimura TT Special camshaft I am going to put in it.Just have to start saving up for a used head because I would like to try some porting and would like to save the stock head in case I screw up my porting job.Love the old Honda's.

I've ridden my 550 only 2 days when winter set in.  It was restored in the Minneapolis, MN area by the former owner.  Appears nothing, at this point, needs attention.  That decision will be confirmed summer of 2012 when I expect to put several thousand miles on it.  I'm surprised at the amount of vibration and seat discomfort so far.  Russ in Iowa

Welcome Russ!

Next time you fire 'er up, check that all four header pipes get hot. Get a manual and do the 3000 mile maintenance stuff and Shen should smooth right out.

If not, there is a vast amount of info anmd help here to help ya set things right!

1000 miles, eh?  Iron Butt run by chance?

1976 Honda CB550F (9,000 original miles)

This is how I found her this fall in a neighbors garage.

She looked a lot worse than what she really was.....just needed a good deep cleaning, a new seat and front fender.  The carbs were gumbed up really bad but were salvageable as well as the front brake caliper.

Thanks, St. Louis Missouri.  It has been a strange warm winter here this year and everybody has been able to get a lot of riding in when usually we'd be snowed or iced in.  It figures that the week I get her licensed and back on the road (last week) that it would decide to get cold and snow.  I've only put 20 miles on her, but I intend to use it for my daily commute.

Oh and I have to say thanks to Flying Tiger Motorcycles in Maplewood Missouri.  They specialize in vintage Japanese bikes and did the carbs and brakes.  If you are ever in this part of the world I recommend looking them up....you can spend hours gawking at the bikes they have in there to work on.

Well, we kinda sorta are headed ur way. The 2nd annual SOHC4 relay is about to get rolling. You might see mention of it elsewhere on the site. Here's info on it:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=101662.0

Join in for a few miles or a few hundred!  And maybe let Flying Tiger know as all bikes, all years are welcome.

Yea, last years was great fun. Met up with a lot of riders from the forum and other riders too. Last year's relay is still rolling, actually.  It's in South Australia at the moment. Headed to Europe once he finishes Oz.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Guess I can't lurk in silence forever :)
My 78 550 I've been gradually rehabilitating(with no prior experience) with the amazing amount of info shared on this board.
Lot of hours invested, but so many more to go.
Pardon the cellphone pic. Planning to start a proper build thread at some point.

Oh yeah. Not sure where to make the offer, but I am a web programmer, and wouldn't mind helping out with what little remaining free time I have should any site improvements be desired.

You know, I don't think I'm going to get too ambitious with this one since I am now planning to actually gift it as a token of gratitude to a friend once it's in top shape. Probably just going to make sure the valves are in proper adjustment which I have been procrastinating on, throw on some pods and finally tune/sync the carbs. I'm just finishing up swapping out all the signals with mini's and ditched the big ugly brake-light. Maybe some olive drab paint, but the silver has grown on me.

Either way, I'm now in the market for a 750 though :)

I'm definitely drawn to modding more than restoring, but I have no real preference towards any specific style, and kind of enjoy letting things take on their own shape through random decisions so........heh, who can say what'll happen?
In addition, this is my first, and the more I pour though the posts on this site the more I realize what's all possible.
Hondaman had a great post about handling that I'd love to run through on the next one:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=6878.msg61579#msg61579
And some of the members here have had some interesting talks about boring out to 900-1000 cc's. *shrug* could be interesting if money allows :)

I already love working on the current bike more than most hobbies I've picked up, so I'm pretty sure this is the beginning of what will develop into a life-long obsession, and now that I have a massive garage, well, gotta fill it with something :D

I bought this 76 CB550f basket case in march. cafe build took 1-1/2 months before I could ride. It's in the shop getting wheels trued and carbs synced right now. I already did the ton on oval wheels what a stupid thing to do
It seems a little small next to the Roadstar Silverado and smaller when I'm riding but with 120 main jets pods and 4 into 1 mac exhaust and some weight reduction this 36 yr old 34,000 mile engine is awesome. The dyna s ignition coils and wires made a big difference. All in all I love the way it rides and looks for a home built bike. I need to add a steering damper and would like to go with 18" alloy wheels but haven't been able to find the correct rims yet.
I anyone reads this post that has a 1.85 x18 and a 2.15 x 18 40 spoke alloy rim send me a pm
