I do have a question though, was there a 550F model in 74' or were they all Ks until 77?
Depends on country.  American models had Cb550k from 74 to 78  The F model was from 75 to 77.
Other countries, things were different, I'm told.  But, I wasn't there.

Cheers,

Britain didn't get K until 78 with late model carbs.(and four pipes.)
CB500f was still being sold in 75?I think they only had F1  in 76/77 and F2 in 78. and I think the the CB650 was on market after that.(79)
I can only remember the 1977 F1,  but I have an F2 or two? (I forget what I've got, only know F1 for definite as its my avatar) I sold the K to my brother so I think I had four at one time

We had F1, F2 and K3 in the UK. Whether they were ever officially designated that way I don't know, but there were differences between the two Fs - if only in the paint and decals available.

For fashion reasons Honda discontinued the rubber front fork boots on the F2 that worked so well on the F1 (and other old models. I did 130.000 kms on mine and thanks to these rubber boots, I have not had to change a dust seal yet.)

F2 for most countries have a different frontfender without vertical ''spoke''.

K3 models have these new carbs that weren't much of an improvement either.

CB550F2??

In the US, F models were produced for 1975, 76, and 77.  These were designated F0, F1, and F2 respectively.

The changes were largely cosmetic, with the exception of the front forks in the 77/F2, which were different (lowers were different casting) and shared commonality with the K3 (77-78).  The single stay front fender was associated with the fork change.

Other F2 differences include a single outlet petcock (instead of two), and a different clutch plate in the fourth position.  The Honda shop manual elaborates on further electrical differences on models outside the North American continent.

slight hijack...

spikeybike,

VERY interesting and creative design job on your bike. I was looking at your rear drum and wondered how you drilled it, and whether it creates any problems with moisture, grit, etc. also, I have one drilled front rotor and another I want to have done in the same fashion, but the guy who did the first isn't taking on any more work like this at the present.

If I sent you my drilled disc and the one to be  done, and my brake drum face, would you do them?

PM me...

You may now return to your previous thread...

They are MAXXIS classics. they are both "Fronts"  100/90/19 WWW front and a 120/90/18 WWW on the back. I LOVE them.
I have ran them for 3 seasons now. They are good all around.  I should have put the blackwalls on my 750.
and they are reasonable$$

I think I got them from these guys, just google maxxis classics.

yeah, they flex just stopping my load as it is.
I HIGHLY recommend moving up the the 750 disks if you would ever go for the dual disk conversion.
The only major cost difference is the calipers, and the stopping power is INSANE, yet very smooth and predictable.

Good luck, guys.  But really, it isn't that hard.  Just get the 105 main jets, and you'll be golden.  If you are really lazy, you don't even have to pull the carbs off!

You guys both have 77 CB550 engines, right?

Neil, you might have some issues with getting the right pods to fit your 77 carbs with the older frame, though.  I don't have any advice for you on that.
