Neil, you might have some issues with getting the right pods to fit your 77 carbs with the older frame, though. I don't have any advice for you on that.

Yea ed i have the 77 550 engine. Fortunitly for me...my carbs are already off and awaiting either me or my buddy to rebuild them...woot!

What exhaust are you running? My jetting with pods was with the MAC 4-1.

Not sure just yet..its either going to be a 4 into 1 made from the stock CB headpipes and a cut off supertrapp collector and muffler from GPz550 or it is going to be a pair of custom built 4 into 2 drag style pipes.

I work on so many 750s that sometimes I forget I own a 550. it's a 1974 built back in 1974 out of a brand new bike and a judicious use of an AEE catalog.

I'm on the list as one bike but I forgot I actually have a CB550 F2 somewhere in pieces as well as the original CB550 F1 in my avatar. (about the only thing I can remember about the F2 is it was maroon and had been in a front end accident)
Also have most of 550 engine plus a CB650 crank, rods, cam etc for spares.
The 'joys' of having bikes strewn across the globe (they are in Britain)

here's my "beast"

. '77 550. clip-ons and removed rear fender. used a trailer light for tail/stop light. put two light elements inside for running and stop lights. i wanna change the front fender and do something with the exhaust. not sure yet. i found outwhen i got the bike that the side covers are not safe at a "ton" when missing one of the tabs. left side cover flew off the bike on the highway

gotta find one on feebay now
