First post.

My cousin had a 1977 CB550K in his barn wasting away. He gave it to me on the condition that I hauled it and it was mine free of any other charge. It didn't have a title (which I recently got my hands on!), a seat or much else that was in a functioning state, really.

The day I brought it home


That tank was rough, let me tell you! The right side was dented in, luckily I had access to a body work spot welder, complete with a slide hammer and all that jazz. I lined it with a kit from POR-15. Hopefully she holds up, the bottom of the tank was a war zone of rust holes. I would've been losing gasoline faster than I could dump it in!

In our basement, it's a little further along. I'm not really going for a restore at the moment, just a functioning bike. That seat cover still needs riveting. Also put the stock handlebars back on.

Kudos for bringing another one back from the brink! I wonder if that tail light/ fender is stock for the bike. I like the bracket design over my '74.

Quite certain the tail light is stock for the '77. I have another rear fender from a '73 model but it didn't have the tail light so I don't have reference. I haven't setup a thread for anything but introduction along with this post, I'll get on it as I have an entire day at work and it's a slow day. I figure it'd be a good spot to chronicle what the bike has been through.

Thanks for that link/reminder Lloyd.  I think a lot of us forget how damaging really loud pipes can be to hearing [I'm amazed that I personally don't have more hearing loss from being @ drags w/o hearing protection years ago]. 

Nowadays I think most are savvy about dangers of that.  Something about age..and that lingering tinnitus from years of loud, testosterone-driven abuse (loud bikes, cars, rock & roll)..that makes us appreciate the "mellower sound" of muffled rides.  I really do prefer the sound of a strong, stock (preferably 4 into 4) SOHC 4 nowadays.

The baffle was removed from the Mac on my 550 before I bought it. Honestly I hate it. It's ugly and sounds like crap. It brings the entire look of the bike way down. Unfortunately I don't have the cash to buy a set of Benjie's pipes, so I'm weighing my options. I will not buy another Mac though. They're crap.

I'm already registered but I wanted to show off what I've done recently to my 78 550 and I figure this is the place to do it.  I don't have any "before" pics but lets just say cosmetically speaking the bike was in a bit of disarray.  I had my tank and side covers repainted, I repainted the Honda emblems myself, I had the seat reupholstered, I took off the wonky stock turn signals, headlight mounting brackets and replaced with smaller, lower profile ones, and replaced drag bars with clubmans.  I'll be replacing the the gigantic brake light soon with a smaller one.  Cheers!

Nope they are from david silver spares across the pond. Though in the last few months i have seen them pop up on ebay. I think thay are a vintage style pipe. I absoultly love Benji's pipes and would like to have a set. I just don't have $875 bux to get them. these don't have the style but they'll do. By the way good luck with the resurrection.
