Just joined recently and thought I would log in my two 1976 Honda 550's.
The blue F has 21000 miles and the brown K has 6500 miles. I've had the F since new; the K I just got for nothing. I'm it's third owner and I know the original owner. I'll have to give him a call and tell him that I've got it now! The K has some problems as it hasn't been registered since 1983!
The tank is OK with minimal inside rust but the  carbs are plugged, the tires are shot and so is the exhaust.
I want to die like my grandfather did...in his sleep and not screaming like the passengers in his car!

If there are so many more 550 on here then the 750s why are aftermarket parts not as available for the 550? like valves, guides, studs, bigbores, ect.?

Welcome Wardenerd and Shellfish. As for the aftermarket parts thing. I am guessing that its because 550's until more recently have not been mod'd as much so the money was not there. However with fewer and fewer 750's on the road, I am betting that changes. I hope. ;)

Hey, it's always been the bigger is better belief.  And, you can always get more horsepower out of a bigger engine.  So traditionally, there has always been more stuff available for the 750 over the 550 for those who wanted more power.

Percentage-wise, you can make larger gains with a larger displacement engine over a smaller one.

I understand that but even stock replacement stuff is hard to find. Im going to do a top end rebuild and some HD studs would be nice, better valve guides, or even some stainless valves. Maybe im not looking hard enough. I just always feel like honda is ripping me off if i have no other option to compare it to.

Yes I know the feeling. I hate buying from my local Honda dealer, they mostly look at me as if I should be shot for having such an old bike and how dare I want parts for it.

PM Hondaman, he is a good resource for parts.. If not he will point you in the right direction.

Did you contact Mreick for parts sources?

+1 on that.. hum.. That bike has a F tank.. you should sell that one and get a K tank for it.. I wonder who would need an F tank, could be some one with a big rip in the seams of his tank..  ;)

Nice! I wish mine looked that good when I get her, I would not be staring at a garage full of parts and no time to put them together. It will be a mad dash in the spring as the weather gets better.. I will be able to take some time from work then..

Nice! I wish mine looked that good when I get her, I would not be staring at a garage full of parts and no time to put them together. It will be a mad dash in the spring as the weather gets better.. I will be able to take some time from work then..

-Scott..

Oh i have a garage full of parts alright, its my parents garage :) but they said the mtorcycle stuff has to be moved in the spring. just no room in my apartment.
Ah.. that bites.. Hope you find a good home for them.. ;)

Welcome aboard.. Good start to the chopper you got there. Love the exhaust.. Are you going to start a build thread for it? I think you should even if all you do is put it back together and paint it. Where about's do you live?

Enjoy..
