Hi Scott,

Well this is his project, but I am helping.  I want him to learn how to do as much of this as he can.  I just get to do all the hard stuff and buy parts :)

Thanks,
Gunner

Thanks scott!

Will be taking advantage of the coldfront (96degrees) that's supposed to come rolling through this weekend to retorque the head. number 1 cylinder is losing oomph when it heats up so I hope Im getting it before the head is (too badly?) warped. But yes. Was my first bike back in the day and despite having had others, this one always kept nagging at the back of my brain untill I finally found this one.

Thanks for the compliment!

1977 K (future cafe)

Bought it a little while ago, but its in pieces now. Cleaned the carbs and realized the head gasket was bad. In the process of re-assembly I broke a stud, so now I am working on getting those S.O.B's out ??? . Put clubmans on and s.s. brakelines. Now I need a cafe seat, rebuild front forks and I'm looking at a tank w/ knee dents and metal gas cap (instead of the door)

I started a thread but w/ a newborn and a 7 and 8 yr old I have very little time to work on the bike much less take pictures and document. But I will try from time to time to snap a few and keep it updated.

Not a basket case on the outside but deep deep down YES! I feel like I am replacing the entire bike one piece at a time. The more I look the more crap I find that needs replacing. Oh well, the chrome is good and the pipes are original. I'm starting from the front and working my way back. Logical? Maybe.

Welcome aboard. Cool seat on that bike. Starting front to back or back to front as long as you start its a winner...

Denver, CO

My '78 550K I picked up this winter. Work in progress. Runs great, smokes like crazy :)

Changes since I bought it:
New Horn (old one didn't work)
New Handlebars (old ones were bent)
Side Covers (bought on ebay, different colors, but will repaint this winter)
New tires (dry rotted old)
New Oil filter bolt
New Choke Cable.

Things I would like to do going forward:
Repaint tank, side cover and pipes.
Figure out why kick starter rubs and hits against rear brake lever.
New Brakes
New Chain

Any idea why she is smoking so much?
