No clue right now. Going to put new plugs and oil filter in this weekend, old are just that, old and very black. See what happens then. Also, the exhaust internally looks pretty rough, but I can't find any leaks or anything, engine wise, it all looks pretty clean. I'm open to any ideas on where to start looking.

I have a 78 Cb550K that also smokes.  I think it is the Valve guide seals.  I'm just about ready to replace them with the head still on.
I have to install an air conditioner on my house first.
We'll see.

Anyway, mine looks like yours except it still has the 4-4 pipes and the side covers.
...and tank badges.

1976 CB550K wit some 80's toocool goodies. Dig dat red seat and high rise bars. Runs for a bit and smokes. Lot's o' scrape and a few dents but the pipes are good and the rims are clean.

hi guys! new to the forum. here is my 550.

the picture is a bit old but here are some specs:
threw this new steve carpy seat on real quick with zip ties to go to a moto meet up. just slapping stuff on until total rebuild in the winter  :)

1976 cb550 supersport
pod filters
aluminum megaphone muffler
dyna s ignition
tarozzi rear sets
tomaselli clip on handles
mini gauges
bumped up the carb jets
showa rear shocks (not pictured)
kick start only
rust

gonna hide the battery and electronics soon and clean the bike up sorta nice.

would like a tank like this:

what is the style called? any links?
that or a norton style tank (match the seat a bit better?)

Picked my 76 up last year at a swap meet for 600 with a title, started up cold, ran smooth, rode it home.






spent too much time running the internal wiring through the clubmans, so i only rode it a couple more times before i pulled the head.



im just now getting it running right, just in time to put it away again for the season.  :-\

it was the walnecks meet this time last year, and i just got it running and near rideable today. time to make a new seat haha

Ooo Ooo! I wanna be a part of the group!!

Here she is, she's a 1971 CB500-4, ~15K Miles, she sat outside for a few years at a shop across from my dad's shop...long story short: he got the bike for free a few years ago, parked inside and there it sat until I asked for it.


And here's how she looks now after a new seat, shocks, and a tune up.

This is my first bike and I love it! ;D

$900 and it runs like its new. Small oil leak somewhere from the shifter lever area(but I've read that's pretty common) and a valve adjustment are all it really needs. The paint isn't my favorite nor is the seat but those will get taken care of this winter. *crossing fingers*

All that really matters is that the little man digs it!
