Wait a minute Mooshie.  The top red bike is a 77 CB550F.

The pretty green bike has a 74, 75, or 76  K frame.  Front fender is from a earlier K bike, too.  Just how much of the top bike was used in the green bike? The motor?   Tank?

yup it is a Franken-bike....ha ha. When the top bike was torn down the frame was a mess due to an accident so we took the motor only (and a few other sundry parts) and pieced things together into a 76 frame that was in good shape.    So registered it as a 76 to match frame.  The fender is from the first bike I just had them add the extra "strut thing" (I know that is not what it is called) to make it look like I wanted.  This is why they don't allow girls to re-furbish bikes.  I drove the poor mechanic nuts.

Here's my "new" old 550F.  It's a '76, and undoubtedly a nostalgia buy, as I had purchased a '77 550F new (my first new bike purchase!) when I was in college.  Currently it's on its way to me from Cali, I hope to have it here next week sometime.  Then the fun will begin!  As of now I have 4 MCs in the stable:  Two Harley V-Rods, a BMW K1200LT and now the 550F.  Let's just say I get a few head scratches when people walk into my garage

Welcome Pete!  Sweet looking F you got there!  And I know the feeling about people looking at ya weird for all the bikes.  I have 4 also, one with a sidecar!  But you and I have a LOOOOONG way to go to match the stables of some people on this forum.  A few have 20+!!

Geez guys and girls, I didn't even know this thread existed!!  To date I have owned two 550's.  The first one I bought as a total basket case as my baptism in to the SOHC4s.  It had a blown top end from a broken cam chain and had been disassembled by the 17 year old PO with good intentions.  Unfortunately the project stalled and I picked it up for $250 with a clean title and registration.  I spent the next 4 months rebuilding the bike using a $100 donor 500 motor with 750 carbs.  Pretty happy with the end result and sold it to move onto something bigger and better...

Left my garage running like a top and looking like this


Then I snagged a sweet deal on a '74 750, built a killer cafe racer, but didn't like the bulk or riding position


So I sold it and picked up this time capsule!  1974 CB550K with 22,000 miles and all original parts.  We couldn't get it started when I picked it up, so I got a sweet deal!


After a few months of wrenching, it's perfectly reliable enough to be a daily driver and will be participating in the Relay in a month or so!  See here for the build thread:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=84551.0
