Need a mechanic/car repair shop in Manhattan/NYC??!!
« on: January 10, 2008, 07:13:58 PM »
Im asking for a friend of mine who recently moved to Manhattan. She crashed her Toyota Corolla at the start of a journey back to Boston - on the entrance to the FDR Parkway (86th St) there was some oil on the road and she skidded her car into a wall.

Any NYC locals know some good cheap garages that are good/relaible/wont rip you off? She used to go to a cheap but reliable Brazillian outfit in Boston so looking for something similar in NYC - she lives on the Upper East Side so anywhere around here or close would be great......anyone?

thanks in advance,
cheers
Andy

It's not in Manhattan, but it is close:  Highpoint Garage in Union City, NJ.  It is just a couple miles outside the Lincoln Tunnel and there are buses into the Port Authority.  I had one good experience with them, but that's all I know.  Otherwise, I've really not been happy with body shops in NYC.

If she likes Brazilians, there is a motorcycle shop on 95th street on the East Side called "Power Cycles, Inc." that I believe is owned by a Brazilian.  I've had a couple good experiences with this shop, but more than 10 years ago.  Perhaps a phone call to them for a referral would help?
