CX500 Deluxe gas tank to fit a CB500/550 frame
« on: January 10, 2008, 09:03:43 AM »
Hi folks,

Quick questions.

1. Is the CX500 Deluxe gas tank larger or equal to in size of the CB750 gas tank?
2. Can this tank (CX500) "fit" on a CB500/550 frame with little or no modifications to the mounting brackets?

Thanks,
James

Probably not, and besides, it's ugly as sin.
The whole front end of the cx500 tank is made to fit a different shaped frame. It slopes up.
I can check for sure later tonight, a friend of mine has both bikes at his garage.
But I wouldn't, even if I could.
No.

Thanks for the opinion.  I thought it had that boxy shape with those knee indentations.  Maybe I'm mistaken.  I would love to hear the feedback once you've seen you friend's bikes.  I was going to do the CB750 fit....

Thanks,
James

mlinder,

what do you think about this tank (CX500 tank).  Picture it gloss black without the "HONDA" lettering.  I'll do an airbrush of the Honda Wings on an "H".  If it's still a nay, I'll stick with my original intent of getting a CB750K tank.

thanks,
james

That tank looks far too nice to over paint.  If the paint is really as good as it seems in the picture, I think it belongs on my CX500.  I bought a good CX500 tank in the same color scheme a couple years ago To replace my dented one.  It has some pretty scratched paint on one side though.  No dents but bad paint.  Interested in a trade?

Tell me what year/model Honda you want to put it on and I'll see if it fits on one in my collection when we get a break in the rain pattern.  What seat do you plan on using with it?

It did not fit the cb500 in my friends garage. Not very well, anyway, and was tilted forward so that the gas cap was at a forward sloping angle. It didn't fit well, and it didn't look right.
Sorry :(
No.

Twotired and Mlinder,

Thanks for the comments, I'll just stick to finding a CB750K tank for my bike (petcock on the left side from riders POV).

Mlinder, thanks for trying it on your friends bike. I appreciate that.

Per Twotired, I don't actually own that tank it's on ebay right now.  Here's the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260201009218&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI

It seems someone bought it last night with the "Buy it Now" option for $85.

Regards to all,
James
