headlight suddenly went out 2
« on: July 29, 2005, 10:22:03 AM »
is there any other way to wire the headlight on a 76 550k? it went out the other day for unknown reasons. can't figure out why it wont work, all wires and conections and fuse are good, there is no on/off switch to worry about.

Are you absolutely sure the bulb is good?

Sometimes they are deceptive. Try running power to it, see if it lights up.

Yes, the bulb may be suspect.
Inside the bulb (assuming it is the stock type) is a wire filament.  Well, actually two.  These filaments sometimes break at one end.  But, then dance around and intermittently weld themselves weakly back into position.  Then vibration breaks them again and the cycle can repeat itself for a while.

You could also have a bullet connector socket in the circuit path that is loose and being intermittant, too.  If you haven't checked for that, already.
