She Rides.
Well, took her out for her maiden ride yesterday.
Adjusted valves, synched carbs. Got the cam chain tensioner working correctly.
It's a great bike.
The mid range is positively fantastic.
The accel pump makes a world of difference over regular slide carbs, and still has the great feel of slide carbs over CV carbs.
What's been done and what it has:
I've gone one smaller tooth than stock on the countersprocket.
New chain and rear sprocket.
Valves adjusted.
Aluminum velocity stacks
22.5 pilot jets, 120 mains
4 into 1 exhaust
carbs synched
dyna s ignition
dyna 3.0 ohm coils
removed airbox
Removed centerstand
cut down rear fender
drag bars
progressive suspension all around
rebuilt brakes (with stainless hoses). This thing stops GREAT.
Dunlop tires.
New throttle and clutch cable (ditched the return cable)
I'm really impressed with this bike.
It's surefooted and powerful in many ways that other classic bikes aren't. The frame is, relatively speaking, very stiff.
It revs very quickly. Found myself saying '#$%*, I'm already at 10, I shoulda shifted half a second ago.'
It's still not as powerful at the top of the rev range is my cb750, but it really doesn't matter.
The shifter is really nice
All thats left is cosmetic crap. Start on that next weekend, I suppose.
If I'm not too busy riding it.
(yes, I know I need to shave.)
We are going to go with a dark silver metallic, with either dark red or white pinstripes.
Getting rid of the rear taillight altogether, and using dual filament aluminum bullet blinkers to handle both turning and brake light.
Needs a new seat, obviously.
I'll be filling and painting the gauges, or we were thinking about a small, electronic instrument cluster.
Need to polish the front brake caliper (its' been stripped) and the tripple trees.
Wrapping the headers and cleaning up that can.
Clean up the engine a bit (already polished the valve cover.)
