small o-ring and washer in carb rebuild kits??
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:13:03 AM »
I tore my carbs totally down on my '74 cb750, soaked in berrymans, cleaned and am ready for reassembly. In the carb rebuild kits I have there is a really small o-ring and similar sized washer. I didn't find either on any of my carbs during tear down, can anyone shed some light on what these are meant for? I don't know if I just missed something (I don't see how I took them totally apart), or if my carbs are missing them. Not stock jet or needle position so I know they have been worked on before

Thanks
Tyler

Are they for your idle air screws?

I thought of that, but there weren't any on any of the idle air screws when I took them off, and the screw & spring seems to fit tight, but that could be..

The small o ring may be for the float bowl drain screw. The washer for the screw you remove when balancing the carbs.

If the kit is original honda, some of the o-rings or washers shouldn't have a part number but just a letter. There should be a piece of paper that works as a cross-reference, indicating which parts -"letters"- are used depending on the bike.

Long story short, a given rebuild kit is used for different kind of carbs, and in Honda they just included all the tiny pieces needed for any of them, and the ones that are not used depending on the application are just meant to be thrown away -or whatever you want with them. At the end of the day, the customer is paying the not-used parts and it saves them the hassle of keeping inventory for different rebuild kits when one size can fit all....

If you do a search in the old threads you will find this question asked before, I recall having written about it before.
