Didnt beat you by a buck..it moved one increment.. Are you new to ebay?

If bid increment is a buck and you bid 50.. a new bidder in  @ 123,456,789,765,456,789.00 will move it to 51.00 everytime  (or whatever the increment is).. it is called proxy bidding.. use it to your advantage..
I should clarify. I find an item with zero bids. I put in a bid. As soon as I place my bid, I mean hit the enter button. A bidder comes out of no where who has zero feedback and outbids me. This happens every time with this seller.

Bobby why not name & shame on here, if the seller is 'shill bidding' Ebay also should be told.
The seller name is rarey57 and they sell Sirius radio acccessories. I did reprt it to ebay.

I personally have in my listings that I don't give shipping estimates
I will not purchase anything from feebay unless the exact shipping amount is stated up front.  "Estimates" are not good enough.  The last ones I would consider bidding on are the ones that say "Don't worry, I will ship it the cheapest way possible."  Bidding on these items is just asking to be shafted.

Agreed.  If I don't get a firm price for shipping I don't bid.

I'm sure regular users of Ebay have shipped enough stuff to know a ballpark price.  I'll usually round up to the nearest $5 whatever I think it costs to ship and list it clearly in the auction.  Sometimes I guess wrong and have to eat a few bucks...sometimes I overestimate and make a few extra, but it evens out in the end.

Ebay has a proxy bidding feature which allows you to place your highest bid in. Let's say an item starts a $1.00 and the most you are wiling to pay is $50.00. You put the $50.00 max bid in. Your first bid will be $1.00. I come along and bid $1.25, the ebay software will out bid me up to the $50.00 max you put in. If I go to $51.00 I would win. This allows you to win auctions while you are away from the machine. It allows ebay to collect a higher final value fees. It allows the sellers shill you easier also.

If you bid 50.01 you would win. It moves a full increment unless a full one does not exist, then it uses what is there.

Quite important when nibbling because the odd price showing indicates that the other bidder is now at max. But both of you or anyone else can still snipe or bid higher.

Bidding less than you will bid late in the auction is a strategy some use. let them think or wonder that they got past you..

You are not getting shafted if they ship at actual rates or very near to it.. I did not get to 490 positives by shafting anybody.. and did not always have the shipping price listed.

Some people have a lot of things that gotta be just right before they will bid.. its great.. leaves more goodies for the others... JMO..

This should be brought up,

Many buyers & sellers are way too inflexible  in trying to cover their butts  that both sides are finding it difficult to make any deal anymore.

You want to insure the buyer gets it by having tracking.. fine.. but when a price gets way to high to bear on a lower price item, I cannot see why  a seller could not ship an alternate method at the buyers risk.. lack of working with each other is upsetting the applecart..

Don't you win the increment bid over the number two bid. So, if you 51.00 and the other guy bid 35.00, you would win it for 35.00+1.00=36.00?

Yes.. and a 35.04 would win over a 35..

They only way you can tell how high final bid was is if it did not move full increment ot they tell you.

So the.. I lost by a buck or 5 bucks is meaningless..most cases

Yes.. and a 35.04 would win over a 35..if it was placed earlier

The $35.04 can also win over the $35.00 even if it's placed later.  The next bid only has to be on increment higher than the current showing high bid, not the high bidder's proxy bid.

see... i'm a bit different than many of you.  i look for the parts that have no bids.  place my maximum bid and wait.  if it gets beaten who the heck cares, i don't have to pay the exorbitant amount!

if i don't win it... "it was never meant to be"  ;D

p.s.  if you don't think you snipers drive up the price too... you're dreamin'!   :P

A sniper can only win if they bid higher than anyone else.  It doesn't mater if they bid $100 on a $5 dollar part.  If no one bids higher than $5, they get it for $5.50, or whatever the next increment of bid is.

If multiple snipers bid $50, $75, $95, and $100, expecting no one will bid more than $20, then guess what?  The highest bidder still wins even though the price is WAY over the value!  Who is more stupid, the winner of the loser?

It's an auction.  Sale to the highest bidder in the time frame alloted.  If it goes for more money than you wanted to pay for it, then someone else wanted it more than you did.
Bid high or stay at home.

ANY bid increases the price regardless of when it was placed.

I typically snipe my bids, too, but it doesn't change the fact that my bid raises the price.  If I lose, I cause the winner to pay one increment over the bid I've placed, and if I win, I pay one increment over the next highest bidder's proxy.  If I didn't bid at all, the price would not have gone up.  Hence, my snipe bid has raised the price, just like it would have if I had placed it on the first day of the auction.

tjjkc:
Didn't mean for you to take the comment personally at all.  Someone with a lot of good feedback (like you) obviously wouldn't be a problem.  This was in reference to someone with little or no feedback.  I do believe there are honest people out there, I'm one of them, but these days we are few and far between. ;D  The biggest problem with not having a pre-fixed shipping & handling fee is that even though you may get the lowest rate for the item, your customer may not think so, incurring negative feedback.  You don't have to just worry about the honesty of the seller, but of the buyers as well.

here's a little vent...

some of you may remember my selling some motorcycle boots on ebay a week or two ago.
i offered a buy it now price of 80 bucks!  (not including shipping)  ...which was 50 less than what my gf paid!
they were purchased w/in one hour... THEN, the buyer asked if they fit snug or loose.

my response:
a tad snug, and i consistently wear 10.5
i would consider that to be a good fit for the use... no sense in having your boot come off when you don't want it to.
they are really cool, i just happen to prefer a different style.
i think we ended up buying a few different boots last year, haha.

then his response when he received them:
HEY, I GOT THE BOOTS TODAY JAN, 8TH. I LIKE THE BOOTS BUT THEY ARE A TIGHT 10.5. I WANT TO TRY THEM WITH THIN SOCKS BUT THOSE BOOTS DONT BUDGE. I CAN KEEP THEM OR SEND THEM BACK YOU TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD RATHER. IM SURE YOU RATHER ME KEEP THEM AND I DONT CARE ABOUT THE MONEY. I JUST WISH THEY HAD BEEN A BIT MORE LOOSE. JUST CURIOUSE WAS THAT YOUR REASON FOR SELLING THEM AND WHAT WAS YOUR SECOND BOOT OF CHOICE. THANKS

my response:
my reason for selling was actually because they were a gift and i was looking for a more casual style.

the boot i chose to go with were the ones from the box that your icons arrived to you in.

i, of course, would prefer you to keep them. but, i will take them back if you like. i'm sure you looked at the auction and realize you'll be paying the return shipping. The paypal fee was 3 dollars and the ebay fee was something like 5 bucks too. i would send you a refund check by mail, minus those fees (roughly 85 dollars w/out checking precise numbers).

we did learn something thru this whole boot ordeal. go try the boots on in the store but, buy them from a catalog or ebay. she paid 120 bucks for those boots and i'm sure you've seen the ebay auction prices that blow that out of the water... don't buy from the stealership!

before you send them back... try loosening the laces and buckles and of course thin socks. supposedly, feet stay warm in a boot that fits snugly and only one pair of socks rather than a boot you must wear multiple socks.

then his re-response before i even got to the previous one:
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY I SHOULD DO WITH THE BOOTS? I MEAN IF YOU ARE A 10.5 AND AND NEW THEY WERE TIGHT WHY WOULD YOU THINK THEY WOULD FIT ANYONE ELSE THAT WAS A 10.5? SHOULD I SEND THEM BACK? THINK THIS OUT AND TELL ME WHAT KIND OF SELLER YOU ARE. IM JUST CONFUSED WHAT TO DO WITH BOOTS THAT DONT FIT.

my response:
although this response has a bit of arrogance to it...!!

if you wanted to know if they fit snug BEFORE you bought them all you had to do was ask. i told you immediately after you asked. AND THEY DO FIT ME! just snugly.

his final response:
these boots i tried everything they wont budge. what is a stealership? was that some sarcasm? i dont get it. i do know that the boots are nice and i can afford to buy them from wherever for whatever i want. i bought from ebay just because. i spend over 500 a week online and have very few items i return. i do know that if i buy these boots i will get a larger size .. boots should fit with room in the front not snug at all. i dont care about the money.. you keep it. i will have some fun reselling these with the info these 10.5 fit more like a 10 so be aware. ebay is new to me and i have nothing bad to say it was just some advice i guess we both learned how to sel and how to buy. so it was worth the few bucks.. take care

now... if i listed them as "not a 10.5 but something smaller", that would scare prospective buyers.
... if i list them as 10.5 someone hates me because they are a dumbass and didn't ask or go try them on in a store first!

yes... there is something to be said for full disclosure, but he knew he was buying a fitted item... check first!  hit the buy button second!

BUYER BEWARE... I SELL CLOTHING AS THE SIZE LISTED ON THE LABEL  :P
