Wiring question
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:32:14 AM »
Hi,

I'm just finishing reinstalling the wiring on my 550, I've got the Clymer manual and the haynes manual, and had a look on the usual online diagrams - however these show the US models of wiring and I'm having a problem with a UK bike.

The problem is I have a Brown/Blue wire from both switchgear and one from the fuse box (i think It was dark when I was finishing off last night), can anyone provide a clue to where these three connect?

The only diagram that is close is the CB350, but that shows one brown/blue from the RH switchgear, none from the left.

Does anyone have a UK diagram for a 550?

Thanks.

J.

I don't know UK bikes at all, but if you've got the same color line coming from both sides that should give you a pretty good idea what it's used for, what's the commonality between the two sides?  Again I don't know about UK bikes so I can't tell you anything specifically except to say that usually whatever color the line is is plugged into the same color.  When I replaced the harness in my 550k I just matched colors and everything worked fine.

Good Luck!

I have a manual on CD that includes the wiring diagrams and one is labeled "Europe Type." I can try to print/scan and send it if you are interested. Oh, it is also for the K3 model 500/550 also.

The only common wire to both sets of switchgear is the green which is the common and goes to the frame (eventually)

As lost says, remember the main colours:
Red: battery
Black: switched 12V
Green: common

and then make sure that all coloured wires are connected to similar colours.

Where this falls down is if you have parts fitted from a different model - I don't have a 550 manual (sold it with my K3).

Thanks for offers everyone, I had another look last night and I've managed to decipher what it was, there is a brown/blue coming from the fusebox, which goes to the brown blue on the right hand switchgear, according to the clymer and haynes this should be brown/red, this is the bit that was confusing me. (or I may just be colour blind)

On the left hand switchgear there is another brown/blue which turns out to be the turn signal buzzer.

Thanks again
