Brakes the same for different CC's?
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:06:13 PM »
Are the front brake calipers the same on the 550s and 750s from the mid 70's? All I need for my dual disk conversion is another caliper. I'd like to keep it the same as the one I have (it's the kind where the inlet and bleeder at on the center line of the caliper, not the 45 degree style - which seems much more popular).

I found one on ebay for the 550, but I'm wondering if it is the same as the one on the 750.

Thanks all!!

no, they mount differently. the 750's bolt through from the inside (from the stationary half into the caliper), and the 550's do the opposite.

My '75 750f has the later type, where the two bolts come through the  piston side (front). The pads are the same, so I would venture to say that the calipers are probably the same.

Might this be thee other way around? 550's bolt from the inside?

No, the 550 calipers all have the bolts from outside as well. On all of my 750k's, the calipers are the other style, with the bolts on the back side, and the bleeder screw kicked at a 45 degree angle.

750 and 550 are different part numbers so probably different, as i remember it the pads and pistons are the same but the bolts are faether apart on the 750

Sorry KB,
Bryanj is right....the bolt spacing is different on the 550/750 calipers...

If you want to put 750 brakes on a 550, you need to get 750 Hondamatic brakes.  Ask me how I know.....  I have 750 Hondamatic brakes on Cassandra.

No other 750 brakes worked on my 75 550K.

Nah, I want 750 brakes on my 750.  :)  It's just that I found a 550 caliper on ebay. I can't find the center line inlet calipers for the 750. I mean, they come up all the time... just not when I'm looking apparently.  ;)

hmmm...  I will rummage the shop for the 750 brakes that DIDN'T work on my 550.  I'll let you know what I come up with.  If I can't find any, then you can have my old 550 caliper for the cost of shipping.
