CB550 neutral light off center?
« on: January 17, 2008, 03:15:41 AM »
What could the cause be of the neutral light not being on in neutral?
i have to lift the gear lever just before it goes into second gear, then it comes on
not to easy to keep it there, i have to start the bike with the clutch in ...
unable to use kick start this way

Is there a way to align or set the neutral light with the gear lever??

thanks in advanced.

Neutral interlock only blocks the electric start, not the ignition.  Kick starting should be uneffected with or without the neutral light,  But,the clutch does need to be engaged.

Are you saying that the trans actually has gear engagement when the neutral light comes on?

There's a plastic switch behind the left crankcase cover, where the greeen/red wire connects.   I'd check out that area...

i found where the problem lies, and what a flimsy mechanism they used for the neutral light :P
on the gear lever it has a bush with a lobe on to move a piece of thin metal to make contact with the switch

you basically have to "align" / bend the metal enough so it stays off when not in neutral and to go on when in neutral
very close tolerances ...

I managed to fix it a little, but still goes off now and then when it is in neutral

need to tamper a bit or or when i have time to make a better mechanism

thanks for the replies

Cheers

I've disconnected mine altogether, much easier.  Neutral is easy enough to find by feel.

Who needs a neutral light anyway? I've also nixed the clutch safety switch too.
