75 400F resurrection
« on: January 23, 2008, 06:49:34 AM »
Well I've started another project. A good friend asked me to take a look at his 400F to see if could be brought back to life. It was running and he was riding it occasionally. Hard to believe after I looked it over. But it was running. After much examination and hesitation, he made me an offer I could not refuse. Next to the 400F was a covered bike. He pulled the sheet off of it and there sat a real nice 17,000 mile 76 750F, Antares red. It was registered and running. Eccept for a loud cam  and primary chain the bike is really nice. He gave it to me for my labor to restore his 400F. It now appears in my avatar. This all happened last summer. Well, after completing two other bikes, an XL250 as seen in the other bikes forum, and a 71 CB450, pictures soon to be posted, I have finally started the 400F. Teardown to frame and engine only took about 2 hours. Many pictures to follow this restoration. I do however need a few OEM parts. Maybe I could get some help here. Minor things such as the air box cover and filter retaining wire. Also a right side cover. Already have an NOS seat, muffler and chainguard. Could use decent fenders too. Chrome plating is so expensive now! This restoration will be ongoing for the next few months, so be patient.

Oh, she needs a bit of work eh! That grass should hold the filter in place, you shouldn't need a lid or retaining wire at all.

:D :D :D Actually looks like a good bike for restoration. It shouldn't be too hard to find the OEM parts you need. Have a look at the sites in the FAQ section. I would think that david silver spares or classic motorcycle sales NL should have them.

Cheers, Matt.

Also get some pics of the 750 for us too.  ;)

Ok, some pics of my reward for taking on this project. By the way I've taken some on that looked worse than this 400F! Ed

Always good to hear of another bike being restored and not going under the knife. (no offense to the cafe crowd, just not my thing)
