Ebay pictures from Photobucket?
« on: January 24, 2008, 04:47:45 AM »
Put an old fender on Ebay and I thought I could cheat Ebay by posting HTML's from PB to Ebay. Well- all I got was the links (not the actual pictures), PLUS- now people can rifle through my all Photobucket pictures.

I'm about to cancel the auction...
What did I do wrong?!
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Hard to tell Unce without trying to replicate your footsteps.

Seems like a reasonable thing to do though. I've posted photos from a gallery I hosted on my own server before without any troubles.

Maybe they disabled the html tags.

Did you use <>? not [] which are BBC tags as used here

There's the link to the auction. I just copied and posted the HTML from Photobucket. Maybe I should use a different set (they show 4 choices)

I think I'll try something...

Did you start your listing with "Keep it simple" or "Customize your listing"?

If you started with the "Keep it simple" option, the text field they give you doesn't seem to recognize html so it's treating the code like text.

See if you can do an advanced edit that accepts html, and while you're there for each picture delete the "" part and the "[/url]" at the end, so what remains is "". The tag turns it into a link.

Yeah- I do the custom thing.
I figured out that the HTML I'm posting actually includes 2 versions; the first a link to my whole Photobucket album, the second just a link to the picture itself. So- I went in and deleted all the first ones. You can't see the picture unless you click on the link, but at least my whole album doesn't open up.

It appears Ebay has (yet again) changed things that actually make some things more difficult. It might be that they did something to make posting pictures from somewhere else more difficult. If I knew anything about computers, I would start a competing auction that was easier to use. I wouldn't mind making a couple million a year instead of a billion. Most of it would go to charities anyway.

Hey Uncle, I think you're in the wrong business! ;D I mean, when are you going to hang up your "shingle" and go into the Counseling business full time? ??? :D You might be able to bring in enough business to do some more motorcycling too! ;) You could probably get a pretty good number of patients, er... I mean clients from here. ;D I truly think you've missed your calling. :) Seriously, hope you can get what you need out of your part(s) that you are trying to sell. ;)

                                Later on, Bill :) ;)

Aha--I took at look at your page source...

What happened is that when you copied the code from photobucket, some of the < and > characters got translated into straight source code < and >. That's why they're not displaying correctly.

Two ways to fix:

1) edit your listing and fix the errant < and > characters, or

2) go to photobucket, copy the whole code into Notepad first to clear the goofy formatting, then copy/paste that into your listing.

Blame this one on your browser and not eBay. I had the same issue just a few minutes ago whilst editing a webpage.

<a href="http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j315/UncleErnie/?action=view&current=Fender1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j315/UncleErnie/Fender1.jpg

becomes

<img src="http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j315/UncleErnie/Fender1.jpg

The closing /a tag doesn't display here but it should be there as well.

**I see you made your album private. That works too. ;D

Yeah- at least just the pictures come up now. I may try the bottom link next time (whatever it is...)

Bill- give me a call anytime. No charge to you.
(don't tell anyone else, though, or they'll all expect that)
