1983 CB1000 Piston Rings
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:05:17 AM »
I'm asking a question for a friend.  He has a CB1000 engine that has .25mm overbore cylinders.  He cant find rings that will work for this.  Tried David Silver Spares, CMSML, etc....

Does anyone have a suggestion or reference to a shop in the US to obtain .25mm over stock piston rings.

Thanks
Joe

What is the actual piston size?
There is probably something stock which will fit.
I swap stuff around all the time without problems (bored CB360 to use Suzuki GS750 pistons today, 3mm Over)

Thanks for the info.... i passed it on to my friend yesterday.

As for the piston size, i'll have to ask him on Monday.  If I remember correctly, he searched high and low for rings on some other forums and with honda to no avail.

He'd given up and found another engine to part out and use the block from it (assuming the cylinder bore is still stock), but now he's having some trouble with that engine that made him start looking into acquiring oversized rings again.

cheers.. joe

I think a solution has been found....

Instead of having rings made or finding a compatible set..... just shop at Western Hills Honda.

http://www.westernhillshondayamaha.com/fiche_section_detail.asp

They show stock on not only the stock ring set, but also the .25, .5, .75 and 1 over bore ring sets. ;D
He's contacting them to verify stock.  I haven't shopped there before, but I think that i'm sold for future hard to find OEM shopping.

cheers ... Joe

Its a no go at Wester Hills Honda >:(   Their Actual stock differs greatly from what shows on their web page.

Pistons measure 67.11-.13mm
Measured 10mm above the skirts.
