72 XL250
« on: December 14, 2007, 07:33:04 AM »
My recently finished 1973 XL250. Found it on E-Bay for $300.00 and it was local to boot! Pretty poor condition when I got it but look at it now. These bikes just keep running and running. When I finished it and it was time to start it I had a bet with a neighbor weather it would start on the second kick or not. I was wrong. Only took one kick. What a blast to be riding one of these again! Next project is a total restoration of a friends 75 400F.

I agree, those XL250s are cool bikes and should be a total blast to ride. I almost picked up on one at a small bike salvage but opted to get a 63' Super Hawk instead. BTW, That is one FANTASTIC bike, very nice job indeed! 8) ;)

Beautiful job.  If you were closer, I would be trying to talk you into selling it to me.   :)

My 4th Honda was a brand-new XL250.  Mine was three weeks old when I saw the new CB350/Four at the Honda dealer.  20 minutes later I had traded the XL for the SOHC.

Not just a 250..
 a 250 MOTORSPORT!!!!

My brother had a brand new one.. 75 I think.. you know I think my very first road trip on my first 750 was with him.. we did about 800 miles or more that weekend. He ran that 250 out of gas twice I think keeping up to my 72 Gold 750!! I sort of tried to go slow.. he insisted on cruising at 60 or 65 mph!!

One day I got him good.. took the point cover off and put a piece of paper in the points!!.. and I waited till he phoned the Honda dealer before I told him..LMFAO!! ;D

Another time right after he got it he was screwing around in the parking lot at a break on the construction site we worked at. He only had it a week or two, and it washed out on a corner on pavement.. he was wearing shorts and kept his leg under it to protect the tank!!.. too funny!!.. lots of roadrash!!

Wow! I love those XL250s. I remember when Cycle World magazine had a full fold out poster of that bike showing a guy jumping a sand dune with it. I had it on my bedroom wall.

I agree, great job! I remember that same poster you were talking about. I had it on my wall too, it was a classic shot. I wish that I would have kept all those old magazines.

;D Great bike! My 2nd bike was a '72 XL 250-I rode it in the woods and on the street, too. I had a trumpet-style down exhaust pipe that I would put on for street riding. When I would kick it over, it would start with a very loud boom that would scare the heck out of someone if they weren't watching!
