How many generations of Yosh pipes are there?
The hand-bent pipes were each custom-built by Pops back in the day when his operations was just getting going, I can't imagine too many were made w/ all the time involved. He also made them for Z1's, GS1000's, CB500/550's and demand was probably overwhelming, with race teams in line 1st. I remember ordering a Yosh pipe in 1977 for my CB500-4, it was $550 in advance from a dealer in NY. After a few months of waiting, it never arrived and I got a refund. Machine-made sets were a 2nd option around that time and stamped out much faster. But not as desirable or hard-core.
I found a hand-bent Yosh pipe for a Z1 hanging in the rafters of a shop 2 years ago, I put it on ebay and it went to Japan for big bucks.
Hearing these things unbaffled is incredible (and absolutely deafening- completely over-the-top and scary). The sound actually changes pitch as it goes on the pipe, literally.

It's loud for sure....I've heard that one. ;)

Anyone have a good link to the 750 exhaust at Yamiya
None of the links on this thread show a "buy this set here" button any more?

Anyone have a clean link?

Does anyone have pics of a machine made set of Yosh pipes?   The 4-1 I put on this summer is early to mid 70's, but there isn't any markings on it whatsoever or on the muffler for that matter.  I'd kinda like to know what I've got on there.

And what size are the primary tubes and the collector on that hand-bent Yosh 754??  I'm sure that has a LOT to contribute to the sound of it.  It's dark-thirty here, or I'd go measure my primaries.  I know the tailpipe is 2.5 OD and I think the primaries are 1.25.  I'll check tomorrow night.

I've got a later Yosh 4 into 1 hanging in my garage, I've no idea what's meant by "Hand made" and "Machine made", I'm guessing machines were used to make either, it's hard to form steel tube without them, I've found. ;D

Mine have straighter headers than the ones in that pic, and the tail pipe from the collector back is a much nicer, smoother bend, it's a much more "professional" looking pipe, overall. (in my opinion, of course)

I'll take it off the garage wall tomorrow night and take a pic. Cheers, Terry. ;D

This is my machine bent system.
When I bought it back in 1980 (Its still as good as it was new)
i bought the competition baffle too. I also have an extra comp baffle too

it sounds good and when you get up close to red line it sounds even better

Very nice Jimmy, did you paint those beautiful gold EPM wheels though? I kinda liked the gold? Hey if you need a safer alternative to those rear shock extension blocks, I've got some nice long (14" from memory) Koni 7610 shocks with adjustable dampening (as well as preload) hanging in my garage? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I met the guy who is supplying Carpy's Yoshimura-Style Exhaust ($399).  He is a top GP mechanic that used to be on the Yoshimura team and made exhausts for Yoshimura.  Chris really knows his stuff -- his shop is a wonderland of modern superbike technology, plus a kickass Dyno.  The exhaust being fabricated is as close to the original as your can get and new.

So does Carpy use his Yosh replicas on a majority of his bikes? Anybody have a link to a vid or sound bite of one?

I think all of his older bikes on his build page use vintage Yoshi pipes.  Chris is making the first batch of Yoshi-replicas.  Of course, since Chris was a custom fabricator for Yoshi, these will be as geniune as you can get.  The custom race pipes he makes at his shop are all titanium.

i haven't looked on his site in a while, but i know he had several bikes in the past with "yoshi style silencers" that were nothing more than shorty glasspacks. very cool if he's supplying full yosh-style systems.

Does anyone know if this will fit a CB 550?

Just about anything can be made to fit if you want it bad enough mate, check this:

Am I the only onr finding it a bit odd that 20-30 people were making pipes for these between 1970 & 1977.. yet no one seems to be able to make them for 5-700 dollars today..
No .......I find it EXTREMELY odd!!!!!!!!!!! If I was a muffler shop owner,I would be all over setting up to do all kinds of custom work. I'm no fabricator but if I was a business owner,I wouldn't have a problem hiring someone that knew his sh!t. A guy that could build a system for anything that came through the door.
What I dig is someone like Jesse James that can whip out a killer exhaust system or gas tank, seat pan, etc. Of course.......he has all the equipment but that ain't enough if you don't have the knack for it.
At this point of my life...I have been thinking more and more about getting out of the wrenching business and into fabbing. If I could take $50 worth of material and turn it into a beautiful 4to1 header to fit an old Honda that someone would happily pay $500 to buy....I'd be jazzed!!!

That's it Fred, and you should fab some up, you can buy all the bends and collectors, so all you gotta do is weld them together, and you're home and hosed! ;D
