Carb Jetting
« on: January 18, 2008, 04:47:51 pm »
Dynoman and I exchanged a few messages awhile back about a problem I was having. Actually nothing related to carb jetting, but he made a comment.. His statement was that cylinders 2 and 3 typically wear differently than 1 and 4 because the jetting on two and three is generally wrong.

Observation..... I work quit a few older bikes...Not just Honda's... They all call for the same main jets( whatever it might be)  across all four cyclinders.

Yet my modern bikes bikes appear to call for slightly fatter mains on cylinders 2 and 3..

I have read something on this and it relates to the temperature of the inner 2 cylinders.
The outer cylinders cool better having no cylinders on one side of them, and 2 and 3 are located in between two other HOT cylinders, so heat transfer is limited as compared to the outer two cylinders.

A lean cylinder burns hotter than a rich cylinder so it makes sense to me.
Not too sure how much of a difference it would make....
