rear axle removal

78 750k: Rear axle removal (after many searches for previous threads, Faqs/Tips/etc)

Replacing tires, never had the wheels off. As per Shop Manual "loosen axle nut, remove axle nut, withdraw axle." Why can't I get the axle slid all the way out? Also, the manual doesn't mention the pipes that need to be removed or the brake rod connector (proper term?) needing to be removed. I removed these items to clear the axle and free the wheel, got the axle started but can't pull it all the way out. Am I being too gentle? I surely don't want to start pulling too hard lest I destroy something (which I do well). Any ideas? Am I way off?

Sometimes they stick..

up to 76 they could be pulled out with axle in, take swingarm ends out.. not sure if yours can do that. Someone will know.

If it is stuck bad, its easier if the wheel is out..

I'd loosen the axle nut, put it up on the center stand, disconnect the brake stay and brake lever, remove the chain guard, the chain adjusters, slide the wheel forward, ease the chain over the sprocket and remove the whole shebang.  I don't think I'm forgetting anything.

There's no real need to take out the axle, but it's probably just hanging up on a seal.

The problem is the later CB750 Ks 1976? 1977-78 for sure don't have the slots to the rear in the swingarm. Early 1969-75 is easy.

You may have to slide the axle out instead of leaving the wheel. Maybe the exhaust is in the way.

Sorry for posting this in the wrong room. Thanks for the replies. A two-foot long piece of 1/2 inch round steel finished the job. I was being a bit over cautious. New tires are on and ready. Now for oil change, chain evaluation and more...
