Honda Retro CB1100F Set for Production in 2009?

When it hit the floor at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, the Honda CB1100F looked like much more than a concept. With its engine acting as a stressed member of the chassis, and its engine an all-new air-cooled design (that allows air between the two middle cylinders of the inline four), this looked a lot like a future production model.

MCN in England is reporting that the bike will go into production in 2009, and will immediately be available in the U.S. market that year. I can hear our baby-boomer readers rejoicing right now!

It's not bad, but I don't care for the dual headlights on the r model, but I'd still rather have the cb1100r or the cb1300.

I'm pretty sure that if everybody who sign the petition put the money were their mouth is and put some money down, Honda will be more than happy to take any bike to the US or to the moon if it's necessary....

Not so hot. I wish they were better. Just 30 signatures to date. Every chance I get, I try to remind people to sign. I talked to my local dealer who has been in the business over 30 years, and he believes that if there is enough demand for it, then we will get the bike here.

I think you will have better luck trying to import it from overseas than getting Honda to bring them here,IMO. The cost of meeting epa reg's would probably rasie the cost to much anyway. The green earth effect is going to put a lot of things out of our reach I believe. But then the people on cb1100f forum think it's coming here , so I'm probably wrong again.

It costs $3500 to ship a $6500 bike here. I don't think it should be the individual consumer's responsibility to import the bike. Hopefully Honda will bring the bike to the US.

While it would be nice to have a new bike , I suppose

I think they look pretty good but are not a be-all, end-all..

Just thinking you could build a pretty nice modded 750 for 6 K.. yeah I know.. I am the antichrist of consumers.. but I am probably more confident in the ability of cb 750,s to be ridden lots of mileage than most people.. again just my opinion..

I think the new stuff is just not stirring me...

the faired CB1100F looks hot to me. I'd totally buy it if I could get my hands on one. its very likely fuel injected(as most every bike is now) and being a newer bike, I wouldnt be near as afraid to crash it as an older one. ooh 17" wheels too from the look of it. Pirelli corsa III tires will go on there for sure with me.

They're all FI now, to meet the emission specs (even the '08 Bonnevilee is FI)

Don't know prices yet as they're not launching until Feb.

How can they call this retro? It looks ulta-modern to me, but then I think the cb500/4 is a modern bike, after all it has all the latest gadgets like automatic advance/retard, disc brake, indicators, swinging arm suspension, smooth four cylinder engine (unit construction), telescopic forks etc....

Your joking right. Modern gadgets. Harley has had all but smooth and four cylinders for years and the only ultra-modern thing about them is there price. Even the crotch rocket look is 20 years old now. Modern now is kevilar<sp?, carbon fiber, and ultra light componets.
Dual shocks, old style swingarm and a frame you can see is what most consider a retro look.

He's right though. These are not part of Honda's "let's get below 150kg and above 180bhp for less than £9k" projects

This is aimed at the Bandit 1250 in my view.

"Old fashioned" (= cheap) frame and engine. I expect it to retail at the same as the Bandit over here. The Hornet (naked and slightly detuned 'blade) is way more money than the Bandit/Fazer.

If your asking if I don't look at harley's your right I don't. Heated grips - wouldn't that be an option. Don't bother trying to impress my with modern if your talking harley, not going to happen. I would assume that if they brought back a retro looking bike it might have to have some modern features to meet the EPA garbage rules. And EFI could be used and still not raise the cost much - it's not like that tech. hasn't been around for a few years already. It's not like Honda couldn't make a bike that can run good with a carb or to.

Ekim it is pretty clear that you dont look at them, just talk about them..

They have had EFI for about 10 yrs.. they have things like throttle by wire, and heated grips.. yet you come out and say there is nothing modern about them...LMFAO..

When I want to see something modern, I look at bikes like the goldwing. Harley makes their money by being "old school"or looking it anyways. I suppose it depends on a persons definition of "modern". If harley adds another valve, then that is modern....for them anyways. For the rest of us, that was done in the 80s. That is just one example.

of pushrods, it's still old as dirt technology.

A few years back, I had a magazine which showed a nostalgic silver CB750 buolt with modern parts. It look prety close to a K1 but with a DOHC engine. I was hoping this thread would churn up some pics of the silver prototype. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

While I like the look of the new bike, i think they could have retroed the Tank a bit more to give it more original feel. Triumph did that with the Bonnie. I like the seat a since it look like you can put your feet down flat.
Harley is having it's problems. Sales are way down and they had to stop production for a week. I got an email from a local bike club with 3 very new HDs for sale. It looks like the guys are trying to get out of them what they owe. Things are getting rough out there. With the market taking dump a lot of these stick broker types around here may have to dump their bikes to make the payments on their inflated mortgages, the bimmer, etc.

That is the bike. I did save the magazine somwhere, and the story was that it was produced by Honda, but it was speculated as not making it into production or the US or something.

Buell will be using a Rotax, they are owned by BRP which is Canadian..

Word on the street is that it may be interesting, them having a 145hp v-twin..

They will never give us a bike like we are used to and want.. simple reason .. they need bells and whistles to win mainstream support..

The only people that realize how tough and long lived a CB 750 was & is are those that owned then a long time..

For the money, I am leaning to a modded old 754, it will be less money and a lot of fun.. and hold its value better.. and it will be yours.. not one of 10,000 made..

Well, they can get close enough. Faster, better handling and reliable is what made these so special. I think they may have learned enough since 1969 to make that happen.

Thats the 400cc show-only bike from Tokyo in 2004 called CBFOUR, sort of commemorating 35th anniversary of the CB750. A few years ago in Japan, many 350F owners were modifying their rides to look like the CB750K0; substituting w/ K0 tanks (w/ the tank bottom modified), sidecovers, badges, double cut front fender, early rear tail light, ducktail seat, paint jobs etc. Liscensing system over there restricts riders to cc size of bike and small bikes are very popular.
