Just saying Hello to my fellow bikers. Found this site a few days ago and been browsing its page and thought it would be a good resource as I begin the process of resurrecting my CB550K1 of which I am the original purchaser in 1975. I have not rode this bike since the mid 90's. Other rides have come and gone and its garage mate for the past 3 years has been a VTX1800C that is my daily ride. Big difference between the 550 and the 1800 but I want the 550 for an in-town scoot and use the X for longer rides and two-up cruising. The 550 currently has a custom seat, old tall sissy bar, Mac 4to1 exhaust, and a Vetter III fairing. Since it has been sitting so long there is quite a list of needs. The carbs need to be rebuilt (reason it got stored to begin with), forks were leaking, full front brake system will need total rebuild or replacement, gas tank needs cleaning and sealing at the minimum, possible replacement. I plan on returning it to a fairly stock configuration, except for the 4to1 Mac which I intend to have re-chromed. I have kicked the bike over every 3 or 4 months and kept oil in the cylinders all this time so I don't think I will have any major engine problems. Wheels will need re-chroming or replacing. I am thinking of trying to locate a set of GL1000 aluminum spoke wheels to polish and lace on. I am in no hurry but would like to get the bike back on the road this summer. Anyway thats my project and you will probably be hearing from me from time to time as I begin this journey.
