69 750 rear wheel rim vs. 75 rim...
« on: July 31, 2005, 11:31:00 AM »
Folks,

I am considering purchasing a used '75 750 rear wheel rim to replace my '69 rim which has some
chrome pealing.  Are the rims the same? Or.......would I be better off to have mine rechromed.
The chrome on the used rim seems to be in good shape.  I will use my existing stainless spokes on
the replacement.

Thanks for suggestions,

Jim

From what I understand, they should be the same. The rims should both be something like 4.5 X 18.
I am sure someone else can back this.

If you're planning on swapping spokes why not just rechrome the old one?

It will look better and last longer than a used one.

I guess I should investigate the cost of rechroming......and how long it would take
as it would leave me without a bike in the process.  My understanding is that if you
are going to rechrome, you might as well take all the chrome parts at once as it gets
cheaper in quantity.

hmmmmmm. :-\

Thats true, usually cheaper to do all at once.

Thats how these projects snowball on me!

If your concerned about having your bike down use the later model wheel with the spokes it came with (if they are in good shape) while yours is being chromed.

I would hate to lace and true good stainless spokes on a used (so-so looking) rim when I could do it once and make it look like new.

The rims are both 2.15 X 18 (40 spoke).
Why not buy a new one, with SS spokes it will look great.
