Will a KZ1000 starter fit in a CB750?
« on: January 20, 2008, 06:24:14 AM »
I've looked at the KZ starters in the past but never really thought about. After looking at pics on ebay it looks like the same piece EXCEPT that the cable attaches via a stud and nut. This would allow you to make a better cable then the OEM Honda and change length etc. I'm thinking of buying the KZ starter and to see how it works out.

I had to buy a starter for my Sanglas 400Y with Yamaha XS400 engine. When I got it I tore it apart to make sure everything was good before installation. It seemed very similar to the one I already torn apart from my CB350, no wonder as they both are built by mitsuba. Long story short, the rotor, planetary etc were the same, only the mounting points were different.

Actually, I decided it would be a good idea to put new brushes as they were half worn. As I didn't want to spend a week waiting for Yamaha parts, I just dismantled the CB350 starter that was not yet installed, and installed into the XS400 starter. Even the o-ring seal was exactly the same, as well as the sprocket.

The Japanese have a lot of interlocking relationships. Some Suzukis are actually made in Kawasaki plants. It may be worth a shot if the price is low enough.

The Kawasaki KZ guys are using Honda CB900F starters because they have more torque and are a direct bolt in.
