rear shocks 550four
« on: February 17, 2008, 08:17:15 AM »
Anyone have a good rec for rear shocks on a 550Four? It's running the 33 year-old stockers currently, so yeah, it's in need of a change. I'm doing progressive springs in the front fork. I was gonna go with Ikons in the rear, but DAMN, they are expensive. I'm willing to pay if they're the only way to go, but I'm hoping that ya'll know some secrets.

Thanks,
Joe

There are a number of real nice vintage-aftermarket setups, but in my opinion there isn't much of a need for them on your regular daily rider. Some nice looking standards always work well and look great. http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Motorcycle_Parts/Rear-Shocks/Monza-Standard-Chrome-Shocks_3

Check out the bad reviews old bike barn has been getting in the sellers review threads.

My 550 runs on Hagon rear shocks.

I personally like the ride they give, much firmer than stock, but not so hard they hurt 8)

I bought a set of "lowering" shocks  on ebay with the name "Aggressor" attached to them. In brief, they sucked-Waaay too soft. I ended up taking the springs off my original shocks and putting them on the shorter shocks I had bought. Now I have the lower profile I wanted and a good firm ride in traffic in the city or on the roads without destroying my behind.

I've been using Speedmotoco for most of my parts needs--never bought from Oldbikebarn, but the guys (guy??) at Speed are super knowledgeable and can seemingly get anything.
