What's it worth... cry... sniff...
« on: January 19, 2008, 02:51:26 PM »
okay, I haven't decided to sel just yet, but I'm trying to get an idea from the general membership what my bike would be worth is I had to sell it. Basicaly, Uncle Sam is taking $2K bite out of my a$$ this spring with taxes at the same time that I am trying to buy a house (my first one). When all is said and done, it might not be bad to have the extra cash around, you know?

Anyway, 1976 Honda CB750F1.
Stock 736cc engine. Finned engine side covers. Pod filters. Stock 4 into 1 exhaust. Slight weep of the head gasket on one side. Custom Handlebars (clip ons) with modern controls. Hand built "cafe-racer" seat. 15K miles. Good, strong running bike.

Does anyone think I'd be insane asking $2000 for it? Evilbay Auction starting at $1500?

Thanks all!!
-Bob

Get the financing for the house first. Get your accountant to do your taxes to make sure. If the bike is the only thing you have to scare up money, find another way, part time work, sell off all the silly stuff on craigslist etc. I went through this five years ago and the bike stayed (and got quite a lovely spot in the garage of the new house I might add). Since sold for another one, but you need to give the bike time to find the right owner. Closer to the spring, you fetch better prices if you must. And wait until 4/15 to send in the return if you owe. They are wasting plenty of money already, dont confuse them by giving it to them early.

The head gasket weep will be a concern to some, but the interest in "Cafe racers" is high at the moment KB, so you might just get your 2K, your avatar pic looks pretty good. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, it's not like I'd be without a bike. I still have the K8 project (I've spent $500 so far on a head that I haven't even installed yet... that bike is staying. ;) ), and I still have my Ducati (as soon as I get the carbs/air lines straightened out on that).

Terry,
Yeah, I'd planned on replacing the head gasket this spring. With the K8 project I figured I'd have to get a complete gasket kit anyway, and since the K8 is going to be bored out, the stock HG won't be of much use... for that bike... :)

I may not sell, either. I don't know. I realy like this bike. And my wife is not hounding me to sell it either. In fact she's almost to the point of telling my not to (God, I love that woman); she knows what my bikes mean to me.   ;D

Way to go mate, just do what I do and push it into a corner of your garage, and "re-discover" it in a couple of years time, it's like getting a new bike for free! Cheers, Terry. ;D
